Lebanon update: New cross-border clashes, Israel strikes Beirut again | DW News

Israel says it has carried out a targeted strike in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, that killed a top commander of the political-militant group, Hezbollah, and that 55 rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel. Lebanese officials say Israeli strikes have killed more than 560 people since Monday, many of them children. As fears of all-out war grow, world powers have called for an immediate stop to the fighting.

The commentator cites Lebanese claims but calls Israeli claims "unverified". He asks why Israel did not give MORE warning to civilians but fails to ask why Hezbollah does not give ANY warning to civilians. DW, in the interest of fairness and to stay away from Germany's checkered history, please fire this commentator.

You say you can’t independently verify Israeli claims when they show a video of hitting a house with a hidden missile. Yet you just take at face value some guy who says only civilians are targeted and no military targets are attacked. It’s laughable.

DW sending more and more like the BBC each day. The question involving providing Lebanese more time to pack up is totally absurd! As the other side of that coin is that any 'humanitarian' centred allowance for packing up would provide Hezbollah critical time to shift weapon stockpiles, prepare nmore missiles to strike Israel, etc. Since the 8th October when Hezbollah, which is part of the Lebanese government, decided to support Hamas by attacking Israel on its northern border any sane thinking 'innocent' Lebanese would have rationally calculated that Israel would counter attack to defend itself. Judging by the 2006 conflict they would understand that Israel would bombard southern Lebanon to stop Hezbollah.

Can someone explain something to me? The Lebanese government is different from Hezbollah and looking at their communications, they are distancing themselves from Hezbollah. Why can't the Lebanese government just expel Hezbollah?

In 1 year, I have not seen a single protest from the lebanesse about Hezbolahs attacks. It also always seems that the "moderates" lose every conflict between themselves and radicals. It's almost as if there are more radicals
