NATO summit: World leaders arrive in Brussels to tackle Russian invasion of Ukraine
Показать описание
World leaders participating in talks at a NATO summit arrived at the headquarters in Brussels on Thursday and are set to warn Russian President Vladimir Putin that his country will pay "ruinous" costs for invading Ukraine.
Arriving at the summit, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson accused Russia of crossing a red line into barbarism in its war with Ukraine and said the West needed to "tighten the vice" in sanctions to bring the conflict to an end.
"Nobody can feel safe now. Maybe it will be Poland, maybe it will be Baltic states but nobody in Europe, even those countries which are distant from the direct border with Russia, even those countries, are not safe today," Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda told reporters, as he arrived for the NATO summit.
Before the NATO summit began, Trudeau insisted NATO is not just a geographical alliance, but a “group of countries who stand together because we believe in democracy, in the rule of law, in the defence of human rights and the values that underpin all of our societies.”
The hectic one-day trio of NATO, G7 and EU summits to maintain Western unity will kick off at NATO headquarters in Brussels, where the transatlantic defence alliance's leaders will agree to ramp up military forces on Europe's eastern flank.
