Apple Vision Pro represents Apple Inc.'s highly anticipated augmented reality (AR) headset, currently in development. Unveiled at the prestigious 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5, 2023, this groundbreaking device is scheduled to hit the U.S. market in early 2024. Marking Apple's most significant product introduction since the Apple Watch's debut in 2015, the Vision Pro showcases Apple's relentless innovation in the tech industry.

Apple characterizes the Vision Pro as a "spatial computer" that seamlessly merges digital content with the real world, enabling users to interact with both through various physical inputs. These inputs include motion gestures, eye tracking, and voice commands, fostering an immersive and intuitive user experience. As a standalone device, the headset operates on visionOS, an extended reality software derived from iOS, specifically designed to optimize performance and functionality for this cutting-edge platform.

The #AppleVisionPro boasts a sleek design featuring a laminated glass display front, complemented by an aluminum frame enveloped in a flexible cushion for enhanced comfort. Its adjustable headband ensures a secure fit for every user. Within the frame, an array of advanced technology awaits, including five sensors, six microphones, and a remarkable 12 cameras.

For an immersive visual experience, the Vision Pro incorporates two micro-OLED displays, boasting a combined total of 23 megapixels. These displays, each the size of a postage stamp, are viewed by the user through the lenses of the device. To enable precise eye tracking, a system of LEDs and infrared cameras are integrated, forming the foundation of the iris scanner called Optic ID. Similar to the iPhone's Face ID, Optic ID enables secure authentication.

Recognizing the diverse needs of users, the Vision Pro accommodates custom optical inserts for those who wear prescription glasses. Developed in collaboration with Carl Zeiss AG, these lenses can be magnetically attached to the main lens, ensuring optimal visual clarity.

To deliver exceptional audio quality, the device's speaker is ingeniously positioned within the headband, directly over the user's ears. This placement allows for virtualized surround sound, enveloping the user in an immersive auditory experience.

Powering the Vision Pro is the cutting-edge Apple M2 system on a chip (SoC), delivering exceptional performance and efficiency. Accompanying the M2 is the Apple R1 co-processor, specifically designed to process real-time sensor input, ensuring seamless and responsive interactions with the device.

To cater to different power needs, the Vision Pro offers flexibility in its power source. Users can opt to connect the headset to an external power supply or utilize a battery pack specifically designed for the device. The battery pack provides approximately two hours of usage time, granting freedom of movement without being tethered to a power outlet.

During the initial setup process, the Vision Pro captures a detailed scan of the user's face, generating a lifelike "persona" that serves as an avatar within the operating system. This personalized avatar enhances various OS features, ensuring a unique and tailored experience for each user. As reported by Samuel Axon of Ars Technica, the face scanning process can be performed using an iPhone equipped with a TrueDepth camera for precise fitting. Additionally, the user's ears are scanned to optimize audio delivery through the integrated speakers. This aspect of the setup process can be completed using the user's own iPhone or can be conducted at an Apple Store as part of the purchase experience.

To offer users control over their virtual environment, the Vision Pro incorporates a digital crown on the headset. This crown serves as a tactile control mechanism, allowing users to adjust the amount of virtual background occupying their field of view. By rotating the digital crown, users can seamlessly transition between different modes.

Vision Pro's EyeSight display enhances user interaction and communication. It showcases the eyes of their persona, indicating immersion level.

Zuckerberg talks about the "difference in the values and the vision" between Meta and Apple when it comes to their headsets. He adds that Meta's vision is "fundamentally social" and that "it's about people interacting in new ways and feeling closer in new ways"
