For someone married to the most polarizing man in the country, Melania Trump avoids the spotlight surprisingly well. Wife to former United States President Donald Trump, she didn’t always live the lavish lifestyle of the rich and famous. She is only the second US first lady in American history to be born outside the US. Born to a car salesman and a pattern maker, Melania was born in Yugoslavia, now part of present-day Slovenia. She spent most of her years using a different name while she had a successful modeling career. She is also the only first lady whose first language was not English. It is also rumored that she speaks more than one language fluently. She emerged into the spotlight during her husband’s presidency to introduce her "Be Best" anti-cyberbullying campaign. Given Trump’s history for trashing his opponents on Twitter, some people have found her campaign to be puzzling, while others have made fun of her for creating an informational brochure that was nearly identical to one the Obama administration released. Despite the criticism, polls show that the American public largely likes the first lady and finds her to be much more likable than her husband. She and Donald share one son together, Barron and through all of the drama and gossip, Melania remained a loyal and devoted wife and mother through tumultuous times.

I read Mary Jordan's book The Art of Her Deal. Jordan traveled to Italy, France and Austria where Melania had modeled and spoke to people in the fashion industry and who remembered Melania. No one could recall Melania speaking much in those counties' languages. Melania could only say a few foreign words but not actual sentences or conversations.

The real reason Melania went back to New York after the swearing-in ceremony was so that she could re-work her prenuptial agreement. The part about Barron finishing the fifth grade in New York was just the official party line, nothing more.
