Iceomatic Ice Machine Freezing Up (ICE0500)

In this video I will troubleshoot an iceomatic ice machine that keeps freezing up every couple of weeks and the customer has to constantly unplug it to melt all of the ice.

Great explanations. Juan Carlos is correct, depending on your serial # mods were made to the assist. IOMs are a different beast for sure if all you are used to is Indigo. Got to have the service manuals for all these ice machines, especially if they are something you only work on occaisionally.

Great video thanks. Just a experiece comment. besides everything you found I noticed that the harvest assist rod was on the out position after de-icing the evap what happens is that after the curtain opens and closes the machine goes right back to freeze and freezes the rod in place before it makes its way back and after that causing harvest issues. i.o.m was having this issue and they were having us re-wire the harvest valve to stay open until the harvest assist was all the way back in. there is a diagram on how to re-wire it on line

I use to replace these evaporators out a lot at Starbucks locations due to the coating peeling off and freezing inside the ice . Definitely was time consuming

Usually its the welds on the evaporator its self that break and slide slightly out and dramaticly increase harvest time

On my 3rd machine like this my current machine is water cooled I highly recommend water cooled if your state allows water cooled. Low maintenance and works just the same if its100+ ° in the kitchen. In my opinion its time for new machine in this case

The ice plate is the evaporator. The coil in the back is the condenser. Except during harvest. While harvesting the reversing valve switches them.

I’m having trouble with a ice o matic machine similar to yours same controls, I set it to wash and once I was done cleaning it set it to ice but nothing is happening is there a delay ?

i have a snooker brand ice machine wich is having harvesting prblem. once its completed making ice. hot gas opnes but with in one secnd hot gas valve close harvest cycle back to ice cycle ice did not dump even, what could be the prblem is the PCB board or hot gas valve..?

there is an update to the wiring for this issue. follow the black wire from the compressor to start relay #5, disconnect that then move it to T1 on the contactor. Then move another black wire then tie it together with the brown wire at the Purge switch....

My ice o magic starts freezing up every two weeks. We’d flush it out and it would still do the same. However, when we change the filter it starts two work again. Great. But I find myself changing the filter every two weeks when they should last 6 months. The coils that need to be sprayed in the back or sides that need to be cleaned. Could that be causing my issue?

95% of the time a dump valve fails on an ICE O Matic is because there is something stuck inside of it . I bet if you take it apart you will find scale or some debris preventing the valve from operating . I bet that coating began to come off after the harvest assist got stuck during harvest, and evaporator overheated 🤷🏻‍♂️. Good video

just a theoretical question... what will happen if your refrigerant in the cylinder is contaminated with air? For example, the analyzer will show 100%R134 + air contamianted 7%. If vapor r134 are heavier than air (google told me that) could i just open valve and evacuate air out of cylinder, and now my cylinder will be 100% clear r134?

not very old machine for that much copper plating showing. usually the Reason is --- Someone running too much ice machine cleaner through the machine for too long, too often. not following recommended amount & time. also possibly using non-nickel safe cleaner or acidic cleaners.
Never seen one Get that bad that fast.
Some one broke some rules !
