I think best and safest way to make exteranal/internal oscillator for the FG. is to desolder the oscillator put it on breadboard ... from breadboard wire's for int./external switch.. super short wire's to pads/pcb back ...😁 no changes on origin pcb.. just wires soldering to/from breadboard ... this technique i used a lot on PCBs where i had no place/room to put additional circuits/components... hot glue point easy life... if you can you can also solder breadboard pins (oscillator) direct on pcb if you put your breadboard vertically, very short distance hehe ... so you only need from pcb to wires the supply.. 😉
