Hey there everybody it's me Cody from OnMSFT.com, where today we'll be taking a quick look at Windows 10X, the operating system Microsoft has been designing for next generation devices.

Unpopular opinion. I like the Windows 10 start menu. I pin icons to start and keep my desktop clean. I hope they give me this option in windows 10x too.

The difference between this and Window 8:
This is targeting mobile devices only (for now) where it makes sense. Regular Windows 10 will still be on the desktop.

I get furious thinking, if after everything they STILL had to use UWP File Explorer, why weren't they improving it then?? They literally had years! And it still feels untouched by any developer. 🤬

Tbh these new icons look like they came from some very generic linux distro, but it's still better than the tiles

Very silly question: why is there still a "Taskbar" if it doesn't show apps when collapsed and switching between apps is done via the Taskview screen?

I love this style of videos, keep up the good work. Regarding windows 10X, some ui stuff really looks clean and i hope some comes to windows 10. Also that start menu now makes more sense

The menu on Windows 10X is just the Office 365 portal. Why am I not seeing more reports about this?

looking good.... btw, a nice feature Windows should have is to change folders easily. Google FolderChanger, it works pretty good

I quite like the square icons, though they’re not particularly better than the tiles in Windows 10. The Action Centre looks like it has quite a good layout and I like the way the taskbar shrinks out of the way when not being accessed. Dual screen will be useful for working with two documents, side-by-side, which is what I spend most of my time doing on my desktop - that is, as long as the screens are big enough to be able to see what’s going on.

One question, though, @On MSFT… what were you thinking when you edited this video with that awful, out of tune backing track!? It sounds like one of my old analogue compact cassettes after I’d left it too long in a hot car.

So they’ve taken the UI cues from Android and the snappy-style sandboxed package model of some Linux distributions and put it together in an OS nobody needed nor asked for? I doubt this will ever get past its current stage of development. If it ever releases, I’ll be surprised.
