1. If someone is here with refugee status, they are here legally.
2. These landlords cannot evict them because they are 1 month behind in rent because of this storm, they would still have to go through the legal process to do this. Some of these people may have to accept that these homes will be deemed uninhabitable until repairs are made and they will have to move.
3. I never heard that woman say she was scared to ask for help, the media just threw that in there because its an election year and they need to keep working on making the governor look bad for their political handlers. They ran a story 2 days ago saying illegal immigrants were coming this way to help rebuild, and now this....c'mon. I I seriously doubt anybody offering resources, including the governor, is concerned with legal status, there are bigger issues to fix at the moment like feeding people and getting them temporary shelter and their necessities.

Paying rent for 11 years now that's stupid!

If illegal they can get help to get back home. Otherwise, don’t ask.

You all that are in this situation should get Go fund me and report these landlords because these homes are not livable. Fight and never give up. People are staying in the near Walmart and camping out their people helping give air mattresses water food. Fire department is letting people shower. I just telling you what I’m seeing in the YouTube. Prayers going up! Amen 🙏

at a time like this we are all human. We can't let this horror continue. Everyone has to get help regardless.

Why did the bird die, that seems irresponsible, I lived through a hurricane, it’s rough and we’re all kind of screwed rn, I would gladly move to another country but the hard part about living in other countries, you have to be able to look out for yourself. They won’t help you. It’s different here and people expect it in America and help would be nice, but there just isn’t much unfortunately.

How did you tell the Spanish people about the shelters. Let me put it here in Spanish.

I really hope and pray they don't try to deport them. They have been through something they will never forget. Please don't send them away.

The shelters require ID, and I'm pretty sure they aren't going to let people stay in them indefinitely. Landlords can't let people stay in an unsafe building, and renovations have to start soon. Legal or not, people are going to need long term housing solutions.

Wow. There are some really cruel comments on here. How about we start with some basic human empathy for these people? And BTW, Florida has a history of using disasters for ulterior motives. Before Irma, Sheriff Grady Judd in Polk County said his deputies would be checking for warrants for anyone seeking refuge at a shelter.
