i don't get why everybody is complaining about the new license model.. look, it's not like your license expires or anything, you just stop getting updates after 12 months. the question is what kind of updates stop - i definitely agree that it would be very problematic when there are bugs that you won't ever get a patch for, but bug fixing patches and updates that bring new features could be handled seperately.
other daws might handle it differently, but i don't think it's necessarily better: in cubase, for example, you pay 'only' 100 bucks for an update, but you get a version that is always going to stay the way it is (except for bug fixes for the first year). in bitwig, you pay more but you also do get more. as they explained on their website, major new features will just be released whenever they are ready and not held back for major updates, so theoretically, you could now get the 2.0 update, in 4 months 2.1 brings an updated sampler, in 10 months 2.2 is released and online collaborations are introduced. after a year, you keep exactly what you have, the version with updates worth one year - to get that for example in cubase, you would have to buy the annual update. honestly, with the rate that bitwig is being updated and improved at, i think that after your 12 months you got a "value of improvement" some other daws would charge you way more for. thats's just speculation however. another approach is ableton's, where on one hand all .X updates are free - on the other, the program is quite a lot more expensive to buy in the first place. also, from the way i understood it, it doesn't matter what bitwig version you're on - getting up to date will always be 160 dollars. with other daws, for example updating from version 3 to the current version 8 would be more expensive.
in the end, i think the question whether you still get bug patches after your term expires will be the key factor deciding how just and suitable the new system is. it will of course also play a role how frequently new features are actually introduced. we will have to wait and see, but i don't think it is generally bad.

If there's no video support I might cry a little

YES! I've been using Bitwig over the past year and that freq analyzer on the EQ is something I was desperately hoping for. Also, thank God for the fade/crossfade function between audio clips.

Came here for curiosity purposes.

I like how they used a garbage track to illustrate the presentation. That's bold. You gotta give them that. Watching this reminded me of a new iPhone commercial giving you features that existed 10 years ago. A for effort though. Most Bitwig users I know are furious by this update.

Multitrack quantization option for live recorded drum kits, would be great :-D

It appears most benefits in versions 1.x.x went to MS Surface and Linux users. They didn't deliver on features they had either promised or alluded to for years. Now they expect us who supported this new DAW from the beginning (since December 2014 here) to pay $169 for features that should have been addressed a long time ago? $99 would be more reasonable upgrade.

Ansonsten bitte weiter so.

Thank You Bitwig! For making my $99 Cubase 9 upgrade not sting so much!

Looks great, if you're doing EDM and sound design. On the other hand, even Acid Music 2 had crossfades, ten years ago.

It looks good. 169 isn't that bad. I wish they'd pull an FL Studio and give us lifetime free updates. But the updates seem worth the price.
