I thought I would put together a summary of everything in this video as well as extra information for revision, I hope this helps everyone!!
Focus on how and why a technique has been used rather than just identifying the technique.

How (How the technique has been used to make us feel a certain way) -
As well as spotting language features:
• Personal Voice - Explain how a technique was used to make the reader feel, how it possibly changed your perception of life, or how it was similar to some sort of personal experience you've had
• Display appreciation of the text - Emotional effect, or the power it has to change our perception.

Why (Why the technique was used) -
• Authors purpose - How the author maybe had an experience that was incorporated into the text, or maybe the author wants to change our worldview/perception, or make us want to think about a certain thing/idea.

Common Language Features -
• Metaphor
• Simile
• Alliteration
• Personification
• Onomatopoeia
• Assonance
• Repetition

Higher Marked Language Features -
• Hyperbole
• Allusion
• Imagery
• Symbolism

Overall, show significant depth of understanding about how authors use techniques to produce effects.

1. its not the whats but the how and whys, its about how the technique was used to make us feel things ( i think he's talking about metaphors and such)
2. personal voice, talk about how the poem made you feel something or changed your perception of life (yeah right), personal experience, appreciate the poem.
3. talk about the author? about their experiences
4. language features, smilies, hyperboles
5. IF theres no grammar in the poem, like the characters lost or at a party, or busy, why did the author not use it.

It's not the WHAT, but the HOW and the WHY.
HOW: how the technique was used to make us feel things.
1)Personal voice.
2)Apriciation of the text.
WHY: Authors purpose.

Stuructured answer:
Thesis statement: "I'm gonna prove that..."
(no introduction)

Good tips, but you won't gain excellence unless you have significant depth of understanding about how authors use techniques to produce effects. This takes either an innate understanding of English (some people are just talented) or disciplined study over a long period of time.
