Isabeau of Bavaria and King Charles VI 😵‍💫

Oh one of those paintings depicts "Le bal des ardents" where 4 members of the nobility died by fire in front of the King during the charivari (a sort of carnaval(?). The occasion was the remarriage of one of Isabeau's lady in waiting. The king, with close kins, started the charivari, masked and covered in pitch and feathers to liven up the party. Someone got too close to them with a torch causing the tragedy (if i remember well it was the king's brother). This event is though to have definitively pushed Charles deeper into insanity.

( had a book with events of french history with paintings to illustrate them. This one lived rent free for a long time in my brain😅)
