Prince Charles, Camilla can’t stop laughing during throat singers’ performance in Iqaluit

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla began laughing uncontrollably during a performance by a pair of throat singers during their visit to Iqaluit, Nunavut on June 29.

I know it has been taken as disrespectful but come on! I don't think that many people could sit there and not be amused. You know what it's like when you can't hold the laughter in. I know that I couldn't sit there all serious listening to that. They are just human. The world is so damn serious and depressing and full of kill joys.

"Throat singing was traditionally performed between two women. The songs are sung as a friendly competition; played as a game. One person sets the rhythm, the pace the sound and the other follow. *The first person to outlast or not laugh is the winner, as each song tends to end in laughter.*" (emphasis mine)

It is supposed to be a funny game. It is good that they were laughing.

I went and looked up this type of performance and this is part of what it first to run out of breath or be unable to maintain the pace of the other singer will start to LAUGH or simply stop and will thus be eliminated from the GAME". So how is it that so many people are up in arms over a game. And you can clearly hear one of the gal laugh near the very end. So why isn't anyone saying that she is disrespecting her own culture. Children don't eat everyday in this great country of ours Called Canada how about being up in arms about that.

The point of Inuit throat singing was to entertain their children during long winters to make them laugh. The women would do this together and compete to see who would run out of wind or start laughing. It is meant to be amusing

Charles and Camilla are laughing because those were the sounds they made the previous night. I honestly don't blame them for laughing. I couldn't contain my laughter either.
