The beginning of this video is exactly why you are my FAVORITE fish guy. 🐠🐡

Ha ha! Great video Alex! If I may I make a suggestion? The kiddos are headed back to school and although mine are grown I remember all too well the horrors of the dreaded science fair. Children yell, parents cry... it's a hell of a time and takes months. Maybe you could make a video with science fair ideas? And definitely hash tag it up because you, Sir, are a wealth of knowledge and inspiration! #Sciencefair #CASLV #CoralAcademyofScience

I’m so grateful you made this video and I found it!!!
I’m making something a bit different, a bait tank that will promote saltwater shrimp to breed/reproduce and allow me to allows have bait. After having a bare 150 gallon tank for about 3 weeks I decide it needs some marsh grass complete with pluff mud and some sand. I lower all those items into the water slowly but pluff mud being …. pluff mud, I had murky water immediately. I thought, I will give it overnight to settle. Next day the same murkiness, I repeatedly clean my filter for a couple days and no change.
Then I find your awesome video! The next morning it was 50% clear! I changed out the floss twice the next day, once today and it keeps improving greatly.
Another day and it should be good to go.
Thanks again!!!

You should've made the intro black and white. 😆

From testing more then 10 bags of 10L UN contra soil I can tell you you can add fish second day by adding cycled media on of my favorite soil to use expensive but worth it

Really solid video. Fun intro, and fun to see you doing something practical start to finish. Also, I'll remember the coffee filter. Think I'm gonna attach that to a net and scoop debris manually from the surface (or run it back and forth in a new jar I guess, not that big so shouldn't take too long).

Once I get enough water in a tank, I use a cup. Fill the cup and lower it into the water. Then turn the cup on its side. Then, slowly remove the cup. So you are not pouring the water into the tank you are lowering it into the tank inside the cup and then removing the cup from the water. There will be no disturbance to the water if done correctly. You can quickly fill a smaller tank like is.

i just wanted to say thank you! working on this 40g and my water looked like the tank in the intro (lol. so accurate!). after watching this and looking up filter floss (and trying to figure if i needed exactly the type you showed that was loose, and WAY more expensive, amazon.) i saw floss that was in pad form. THEN i thought, hey i have something vaguely similar on the koi pond which also sticks up a fair amount and probably won't miss a chunk....

sell, after stealing an HOB from another tank, and just giving that an extra sponge filter... i crammed in this piece of filter material. and i can SEE it's already different. it's a big task but before i could NOT even see any of the substrate. or the wood, really. now there are shapes in the depths. it's only been running about 1.5hrs. that's SIGNIFICANT!

i was feeling bummed because of all the talk of weeks to months of waiting for silt to settle, so that would be even longer than the tank cycling. NOW i have hope again that this'll be up and running maybe in a couple weeks. being that the HOB was from an established tank, that might speed me up. i only saw one snail in there ever, still pretty small, so i'm gambling that there won't be any eggs to even transfer. frickin' bladder snails i swear to god. dips FOREVER, now.

i have 2 fiesty koi angels that i'll be stoked to get out of the 5 gal holding tank they did quarantine in. (they are fairly small but already bigger since i've had them. and play hungry hungry hippos 24/7. fekking cute lil buggers.) i also have some tank inhabitant swaps to do but need the big tank.

anyway, thank you so much!!! a little innovations, and because of the concepts in your vid, no waiting and no extra money, and the problem is being worked on.

I myself, having rather smaller tanks (ca. 60L), use an airline to fill up or top of my tanks. It takes a bit longer (a few hours) to fill it but no debree in the watercolumn.
That being said, I'm used to see a bit more sofisticated stuff on this channel. So please stay different from the other channels.
Greetings from Belgium.
BTW: I always get notifications for new uploads from @Fishtory
