We are Kidults

We've seen a few news stories talking about Kidults and we thought we'd chat about what it's like being an adult who collects action figures. There's going to be similarities for collect Legos, Funko Pops, and other items but these are our thoughts.

The fact that you made this a topic just earned you a new subscriber. There isn't really a collector channel talking about these relevant issues. Could you also consider covering topics related to dating as a collector, hoarding vs collecting and storage vs sell-off when you run out of space?

As far as this topic, I do sometimes feel shame for collecting toys, but that's quickly squashed by the belief that life is short and we should lean into joy when we find it.

An incredible video on a topic of recent interest. Thanks for this guys and I loved the dialogue. As a grown responsible husband and father, I am immune to the labels put on me so I find it no offense to be called a Kidult or a Nerd. It is who I am, and there are many other nasty things I could be doing rather than appreciating our hobby.

This subject has always amused me as it basically boils down to “When are you going to grow up and stop appreciating art?”
The first I remember of NECA was when they sold movie merch at Suncoast like coffee mugs and knick knacks. I think it was a long progression to making action figures.

its when you see a fully grown man walking into toys r us to buy things for himself to play with... or when someone demands an adult happy meal.

My in-laws know about my action figure collection they even give me action figures and stuff for Christmas now. My mom knows about it as well but both don’t know the magnitude of how huge my collection since they haven’t been in my house since 2019😅
I don’t actually ever “play” with my figures only pose display and make YouTube videos of them. Sometimes photography. Got into Lego’s couple years ago too 😅
I stopped collecting figures probably in 6th grade and you’re right MCU got everyone into superheroes again. I started collecting again when Covid hit as a 22 year old

I’ve noticed many adults from all different walks of life collecting. Male and female . I for one have been playing with action figures since the late 80s so it’s always just felt natural to me . The only thing I worried about when I started up again was my wife complaining about the wasted money. Think about the people with the huge nfl man caves….same difference.

I don't talk about action figures to my family or friends. All my connections via figures comes from youtube personalities I've connected with.

Dude, every type of collecting is NERDY activity. The difference is that toy and figure collecting is both NERDY and CHILDISH.
It might sound harsh, but adult men should do more manly activities than hunting after the 13th variation of Bubblebee.
What are manly activities? Things that involve some skill and character development.
