New Helicopter - San Diego County Sheriff's Department

Check out our newest patrol helicopter to keep you safe. The Bell 407 GXi can fly at night with improved heat detecting/infrared camera. Better GPS allows the helicopter to fly higher and reduce noise over a search area. This helicopter can carry a total of seven people and hover on its skids for search and rescue calls. It can also be equipped with a bucket to help with water drops during a fire.

Sheriff's ASTREA is a regional asset that has been providing support to the department and partner agencies since 1971. It currently has ten helicopters and averages 2,000 missions a year responding to patrol, fire, as well as search and rescue calls around the clock.
