San Diego: Helicopter Rescue 02012022

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 2-1-22 9:30 am
LOCATION: Indian Head Canyon near the Glider Port

A witness saw the male hiker fall approx 25 ft off of a cliff trail at an area known as “The Waterfall”. The victim was seriously hurt and could not move. The witness ran back up the canyon to the “Gilder Port" and called 911. The SDPD ABLE helicopter went to the scene and was instrumental in guiding firefighters and lifeguards down to where the victim lay.

The victim was in a pool of water and suffered major back injuries. The Lifeguards and Firefighters made their way down the dangerous trial and had to drop down the 25ft cliff to reach the victim and stabilize him. The SDFD’s Copter 2 lower a medic to the victim and then hoisted him up to the helicopter and flew him to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with the major injuries.

That guy is extra lucky. It wasn’t that long ago the FD did not have a helicopter. He would have had to be carried out.

Damn, just goes to show that at any second this life we all take for granted can be upended by something you never saw coming.
Glad he is alive and hopeful of a fast recovery. Sounded like he was pretty messed up.

Some Times I just don’t understand what people see as fun and get involved obviously Life is not that precious. I guess Live and Learn. When I was in my Teens mid 90’s when the waves were big in Imperial Beach I used to jump off the pier. Throw my Surfboard in the water and jump. I’m still kicking thank goodness never got hurt.😎👍
