Streptococcus-related septic shock is a rare but life-threatening condition that can, in some cases, start with something as seemingly minor as a sore throat caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (group A strep). While most strep throat infections resolve with proper treatment, if the bacteria spread beyond the throat into the bloodstream or deep tissues, it can trigger a severe immune response.

In some instances, streptococcal bacteria can enter the bloodstream through damaged tissues or during an untreated or improperly managed strep infection. Once in the bloodstream, the bacteria release toxins that can overwhelm the immune system, leading to sepsis, a condition where the body’s inflammatory response damages its own tissues and organs. If left untreated, this can escalate to septic shock, characterized by dangerously low blood pressure, organ failure, and, potentially, death.

Been hospitalized 3x with bacterial pneumonia, I knew it was serious and potentially fatal but never realized it was capable of causing sepsis specifically. I’m grateful for my amazing care team!

I had on and off knee pain for a year. Was outside walking my dog and kneeled down to get his poop. As soon as my knee touched the ground it felt like it shattered. Went in for an xray and they found a massive tumor on my tibia, and when i knelt down i fractured my shin due to the damage caused by the tumor. had no other symptoms! don’t dismiss the small stuff!

When I was 16, I noticed irritation in my throat and some coughing while on a trip to spain. When I got home I felt pain in my heart for small periods of time. Later that night, I collapsed on the floor with an unbearable pain in my heart. Luckily my sister was nearby and they called an ambulance, and they were stumped that a 16 year old boy were showing symptoms of a heart attack. I was transported to the hospital where they found out I had streptococcus, which had made its way down to my heart. They told me that i was lucky to survive, as it was very difficult to get rid of once the infection had settled, but I did end up making a full recovery with no side effects

Well my new biggest fear is septic shock. So many loose their arms and legs. If it’s low blood pressure, is there no way to increase it and save the limbs?

How much mental strenght can someone have??? Truly, we often say that someone is really strong or brave, but can you imagine losing your arms and legs and still smiling? She looks happier than myself. I respect that woman truly.

I’ve had many bouts either pneumonia! My doctor told me I may be sent to the hospital. Luckily, I recovered.

My doctor passed away. The new doctor was esteemed. But he didn’t help me when I had strep, several occasions. It was a very bad time in my life.

Thank you for your videos!

Beautiful lady sucks she had to go through that. It must be hard to have to rely on people now that she can’t function properly.

Something like this happened to a teacher in my state. Went to the ER for a kidney stone, they sent her home to pass it, she went to sleep, went fully septic, and almost died. Was in a coma almost a month. The medication they used to direct blood flow back to her organs in hopes it would save her DID save her, but killed her appendages.
