Renfail's back again with another Baldur's Gate 3 Q&A video where he takes your questions from YouTube and answer them in-game! TheKonfusion asked a question regarding why I choose to play Baldur's Gate 3 with a fixed party of adventurers rather than switching characters in and out depending on circumstances. That's an easy answer, so let's Play Baldur's Gate 3 and answer his question!

You can also drop SuperThanks on uploads, or SuperChats during premieres and livestreams!

I’ve been sticking with Gail, Karlac and shadowheart. Not switching anyone out. I think that way second play through will feel different with a whole new crew.

I installed Party Limits Begone when I got to act three and I'm not ashamed one bit. I just run around with a the full party of ten (soon eleven) consisting of all companions plus a bard hireling. Now everytime there is companion specufic interaction with an NPC, thwy pop up and say their bit everytime instead of missing a bunch of lines. It also would make absolutly no sense for thw majority of your camp to sit on their ass all day while 4 run around doing everything. It balances out the huge numbers of enemies in certain fights and its honestly more immersive/realistic. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

I play similarly, but for different reasons.

Primarily, I fill roles, building around my protagonist. I like to have a Controller/AoE character; an Expert (traps and locks); a big damage dealer; and a "mission/needs appropriate" member.

My first playthrough, I rarely diverged from my Diviner, Shadowheart (light Cleric), Astarion (dual hand-crossbows), and my "plus one".

I enjoyed seeing their full evolution, and have tweaked characters to allow a similar approach this playthrough using different characters. This time it's Lae'zel (ranged Rogue/Fighter), Shadowheart (Light), Gale, and my Sorlock.

Next? Shadowheart will be a multiclassed Rogue. (Her story still works without missing a beat.) Lae'zel will be a "Cleric" of Vlaakith, channeling the radiant fire of the Astral Plane. (She loves invoking Vlaakith non-stop, so why not?) Gale will still be Gale, because Wizards are always needed. My protagonist is likely to be a Cleric/Sorcerer.

I will, at some point, make Wyll indispensable. I might have to play him as protagonist to do it. Warlocks make excellent fifth characters, as the can fill many niches without fully occupying any. It's tougher to make them one core four, when I'm already accommodating the variability of my protagonist.

I mostly do the same thing. I will make an exception for party members you get later like Jaheira and Minsc, but overall I don't rotate party members. First of all, it's a pain in the ass, but also it gives me something to look forward to on a subsequent playthrough.

I’m the inventory management guide there was no option to move a single item to a different slot in your inventory.

My first play through I switched around a lot but on my second run I stuck to the same party.

I do wish the vanilla version would allow up to 6 character party. I tried the mod but ran into several issues and uninstalled it.

I think the party manegement is horrible, but im loving the game so much.

This was a fun segment.
BG three does a great job of showing players why a group of diverse characters with personalities and loyalties that are sharply at odds might form a tight knit group that lasts for a campaign. It could definitely benefit from the expanded group size mod. The only reason I don’t use that much myself is that BG3 is updated pretty regularly, still, and updates on a modded game have a tendency to break saves.
I do like all of the characters, and every play through I want to take all of them with me.
Except Astarion. No characters who touch other characters without consent as they sleep. Just no. That is skin crawlingly creepy.

Shart, laezel and karlach first time through. Astarion is in my second run but I've respecced him to sorc. Rogue is fairly trash except as the lesser of a multiclass
