BART Train Operator Consoles (and For Sale!)

The Western Railway Museum is selling BART Legacy Fleet Train Operator Consoles sourced from retired cars. For $1000 each, you can own a core piece of BART history and support the preservation of three complete legacy cars at the Museum.

This video presents a history of the different train operator consoles of the Legacy Fleet, the functions of the console, and how to purchase one from the Museum if so inclined.

The consoles do not include the actual horns, of course. These were mounted below the floor on the outside.

Damn I wish I had 1K to spend on one of these. Just not the right timing but it’ll be nice to see on in a museum. I grew up riding these since I was very young

I'm a victim -- err -- passenger of the Fremont Flyer and can be proven via newspaper picture :) Do I get a discount?!? FYI: I was staring at the train op slamming the STOP button with no (obvious) results. I remember the PM Code shelf add-on (Max speed indicator). I always remember train ops hitting the "Man" button a lot when it was raining as Lake Merritt would "lose" them on the map. The train op walking up to the cab was carrying a GE radio with a UHF antenna. So that was in the late 90's when the GE (Harris) UHF EDACS trunked system was deployed (and just deprecated this year!!). BART originally used official Railroad VHF frequencies with no hand-held radios when they first started.

I'm guessing the Manual Control handle is spring loaded, meaning if you let go of it, the handle automatically returns to the "Stop" position. Correct me if I'm wrong.
