Here's a tip. Using the A7rii you can bring a 16:9 image into Lightroom and using the crop tool get the full image at 3:2 as the camera still captures the maximum pixels available. I use this when shooting video + photo simultaneously in manual mode. Works a treat.

I use the 1:1 ratio for a lot of my stop-motion animation work. My a7c has this ratio, but I wish my a7iii had it available too.

One little mistake: when 16:9 is presented, the frame has an aspect ratio of 21:9. Also the aspect ratio setting does not make a difference when shooting RAW (as far as I know).

Really pleased to 4:3 aspect ratio supported in more recent Sony Alpha cameras Appreciate that it will result in a decrease in resolution, but i much prefer it for portrait aspect photographs. I find 3:2 too narrow on the short side.

I always leave in native aspect mode when shooting, then depends on a number of factors including platform, etc. I often crop vertical shots to 3:4 or sometimes 4:5 an occasionally 1:1. Sometimes I will take horizontal shots to 16:9, but usually leave at 3/2. On rare occasions, 5:7 works. Composition always dictates this in the end.

Not having 4:5 in instagram era is outrageous! it can be fixed by a simple firmware update, shame on you Sony. Not to mention a7iii doeasnt even have 1:1...

I certainly won't be the first to ask but I would really like (need) aspect rations 4:3 and 1:1 in the a7RIII. As Sony mention themselves, the majority of their cameras have that option, so why not this top of line camera?? Please add it to next firmware update

Doesn't the custom affect ratio only affect the JPEG? If so, there's no harm done. You can just use the raw....if you are saving images as raw.

2:1 is my favourite aspect ratio and it is missing from ALL Sony cameras...

Just purchased an A7III and majorly disappointed to find it can't shoot in 4:3 or 1:1. If it's available in the 'majority' of Sony cameras, why not in the A7III. My old Canon DSLR 800D can for gods sake.
