A lot of people won't consider the level of care put into the production of this video, the lighting, the cinematography. This is why I continue to watch you man. A true artist.

I think we're also chasing the nostalgia now more than ever since we've all collectively gone thru some global trauma and crazy amounts of stimulation. It makes us remember the simple times as a kid, which film captured a lot of.

Honestly, the full aesthetic of this channel is so good. Like so good.

My film teacher said she likes films with that aspect ratio because it adds so much mystery to the environment. It allows a "keyhole" of information that focuses your attention on the detail.

Love the video!

One of the best things about 4:3 is how much bigger and important your subject looks

What I love about 4:3 is how nicely it frames the subjects, like "hey, until we move to the next shot, this is all that exists". So much of 9:16 and larger is wasted space. You can use those sizes to great effect, but not many do, and it's probably because those aspect ratios are too big for most things.

4:3 looks so good on iPad! Fills the whole screen. Love that more and more YouTubers are using it. By the way, I LOVE your color editing! Like in the clips of you talking to the camera, the colors look so sick!

This is so creative and all around stunning. Thank you for always putting in so much effort to make such great stuff.

I’ve come to prefer 3:2. It’s a nice balance between widescreen and 4:3… 3:2 feels very comfortable on my eyes.

Something to keep in mind for people reading - rotating the adapter on a 1.8 anamorphic lens and mounting it to a 16:9 camera sensor in vertical orientation will get you almost exactly a 1:1 image but with full anamorphic characteristics in terms of background separation and bokeh. Great video, Vuhlandes!

The 4x3 aspect ratio is incredible for video. I've been trying to incorporate it more into my photography but you don't see it too much since TV's and film were primarily 4x3, not photography. Also your use of slow zooms is top notch! Keep up the amazing work and thanks for representing Detroit in such a creative way. I'm a NY native but I love that city so much.

I imagine one of the other things that really makes you use 4x3 is because it allows you to compose video like a photographer. All your compositions look like paintings, like a photograph, if a still was taken from one of your videos, it would be a striking still image. While you’ve been doing video for a long time, you’re not a videographer/cinematographer as much as you are a photographer, it allows you to be in your element creating a pleasing visual image.

4:3 definitely creates a feeling of intimacy, whereas 16:9 has a more "shareable" feel. i.e. smaller space for a couple to enjoy looking/watching and the bigger ratio for a crowd to watch. Hope that makes sense.

aspect ratio is so important to the vibe of whatever you make. my first video coming soon is gonna be in 4:3, and I feel like the moment I changed from 16:9 to 4:3 just instantly felt natural. Growing up, I watched a lot of movies in that ratio. I grew up with 2.39:1 movies like Tron and normal 1.85:1 movies like Toy Story but the 4:3 movies like Peter Pan(technically 1.37:1 but who cares) touch me. it makes me feel more like a photographer or a painter, it gives my shots a painterly affect. but different aspect ratios feel different, so the video after it is gonna be a stupidly wide 4:1 triptych. great video as always, the intro went bananas.

A great a simplistic explanation! Always a pleasure to hear you speak about your opinions on photography/film/ why you like the shit that you do.

Always loved this about your videos tbh, the ratio makes it so much better to watch on mobile displays too. It fits yt's app format better when the display is vertical, the video fits a nicer proportion of the screen while you scroll though comments and related videos. But above all else, it's cinematically b e a utiful.

This video alone for the editing and the colorgrading you do on this is amazing. This and how you frame your shots and the cinematography of it all earned my sub for sure bro. I look forward to more of your content!

Most iPads have a 4:3 display ratio and seeing a youtube video covering the entire screen is refreshing. I think you’re onto something here. I didn’t mind 4:3 back in the day but watching 16:9 and 21:9 content on a 20” 4:3 CRT TV was just painful.

For photography I always prefer 4:3 over 3:2 especially for portrait orientation.

Nailed it again. I had commented it before on the 4:3 videos of you. 90s kid too and it indeed is pure nostalgia and gives a feeling of those good old 90s days. Love how you translated it to this video!! Keep up the good work
