It’s a little more complicated w espresso based drink. If you put it in 3 cups, you still only get 2 shots worth of coffee. But not it just tastes like milk lol

They make the iced coffee more concentrated, so you’re actually just watering down your coffee

Coming from a barista from a smaller coffee company, these ‘hacks’ are setting a problematic expectation that guests can just ask for extras and we are forced to just give them whatever they want in fear of negative reviews or backlash. Please be mindful where and when you use these hacks because it can be detrimental to smaller businesses. Remember, the cups, coffee, milk, straws, all cost money.

I put 5 shots of vodka in my coffee and save 80$ every time.

In the first one, you are getting a super weak latte as it is now over half milk. Basically espresso flavored milk.
In the second, you are getting very watered down iced coffee because the very hot coffee melts most of the ice whereas a real iced coffee is cooled before served over ice and is thus much stronger.
Starbucks basically charges per shot of espresso, so yes, you can add all the milk or water or ice you want but it’s going to be very weak.
It’s like a bar hack where you ask for extra soda for your scotch and soda or extra ice for your whiskey on the rocks. Sure thing.

If you’re trying to “hack” the amount amount of coffee you get from Starbucks or any other coffee shop just don’t fucking go.

But with that logic, you’re totally diluting the espresso and it’s going to taste less and less strong

This goes both for alcohol and coffee: the shot(s) are always the same it’s only the mixer that may be increased. You aren’t getting more coffee, if anything you are getting less and less (ratio wise).

Or you could set an auto setting on your coffee maker at home and spend 300% less

Barista here, Starbucks only charges for no ice/light ice in refreshers

3 main recommendations for cheap stuff

1. Not Starbucks
2. If you pick starbucks, it’s super common for people to get an iced espresso in a large/venti cup with whatever syrup/sauce they want and you can just add milk or a protein shake yourself and it’ll be about 3 bucks for the same caffeine as that 6-7 dollar latte
3. Get no ice. You can get your 4 dollar iced coffee and just get no ice and a cup of ice and tada. (Hot coffee turned into iced coffee because you pour it in a cup of ice is only if you already hate yourself. It’ll be watered down and gross.)

I only go to Starbucks to get a small cappuccino for free. It is in a shopping mall and the mall has an app. Just for going to the mall, you get 10 points. Those points can be used for discounts or free things. A small cappuccino in Starbucks is only for 100 points.

Iced coffee is brewed at double strength, so it doesn't taste watery when the ice melts. You're actually getting less caffeine and a watery experience if you get a regular coffee.

I don't go to Starbucks to make my own lattes. I go there when I'm lazy or in a rush. Otherwise I'll just make it at home

I hate to act cheap & weird when I go outside to eat /drink otherwise I'd just stay home

Having worked in F&B I guarantee you the amount of beverage you get does not get offset by the amount of ice included. It’s all a ratio of set volumes.

This is why Starbucks is now charging extra if you ask for no ice lol just crazy.
