Absolutely true I used to push myself hard because I had stamina but I over worked my knees and I couldn't even walk, now I run only 3 times a week, 30 minutes each, with rest in between, long and steady wins the race

When I was new to running I used experience a lot of knee pain. But over time my knee joints got stronger. The pain is now a thing of the past. 😊

Very true! After 15 years, and a high cholesterol notification from my doctor I started getting back into running. Last week I got a 3 mile run in, but have an inflamed left knee because I pushed it too hard too fast. Learned my lesson and going to take it a lot slower before ramping up.

Never in my life have I met a runner who still has good knees, hips or ankles by middle age

Couldn’t agree more!! Running gets a bad rep. Do it properly and prioritize nutrition/recovery and you’ll be thriving.

His running form is immaculate

Any resources Matt to get good running form?

As a freshman in hs I have overuse injuries.. not fun. Yet considering we are the defending state champions, training is important.

Can you do a intermediate running schedule. (I usually run 30 miles a week)

Thank you for making this clip. Your statement is what I thought must be true, but as a beginner runner just getting into the activity, I hear this myth a lot. I've just completed my first half marathon last weekend, and a bit of knee pain makes me think that I am ramping up slightly too quick and not paying enough attention to form.

Yes I agree I had so much pain because of pushing too much in the beginning of my running journey. It's best to run and then skip 2 days go again.

It looks so much like Herman Park where you run, it’s like my fav place to run

Running injuries are also caused by muscle imbalances

What about doing lifting for your tibialis, calves, knee over toe lunges, and such. Is that helpful for running? Like, do runners do those specific exercises to help with shin splints and knee strength?

Much more important is avoiding heel striking and striking on the forefoot instead

So true... I really did damage to doing it everyday and adding 5 min too quickly.

There was a large study that looked at rates of arthritis in knees and hips of runners and non-runners. The rates were about the same, but runners reported lower pain scores, better functional capacity, and had better functional return if they got surgery.

As long as your lifting and strengthening your knees as well as stretching and recovering once your body adapts you should be fine.
