In this episode of #TheDailyDoug, I'm reacting to Right in Two by Tool. This song has a great earthy groove, but the lyrics are profound! I really enjoyed this one.

Right in Two - one of the greatest yet most underrated Tool tracks

The lyrics of this song are one of the best from Tool

You and Key of Geebz need to collaborate and react to a Tool track, the input and conversation from both of your musical perspectives may just break the internet!

It's in 11/4, because 5/4+6/4 is splitting it Right In Two.

I absolutely LOVE this song so much. How the Angels go from being puzzled and amused to baffled and confused, to eventually acknowledging they've been benched along with patience and reason. As if humanity no longer cares for any of them. They become increasingly disgusted with humanity and at first finding us humorous changing to repugnant. Then we hit "The Riff" that I believe is supposed to represent a rapture of sorts for humanity, after we've destroyed ourselves. Leaving us with Maynard's last, almost subtle cry, of "Right in Two" as the last of humanity phases out.

It's not the most accurate interpretation, but damn if this song isn't strong.

One of my favorite lyrics of all time, "Repugnant is the creature who will squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven councious of his fleeting time here."

"Wings for Marie" and "10, 000 Days", done together, would be an EPIC reaction from you.

I honestly am waiting for you to do a proper analysis of TOOL's "Invincible". And that means an analysis about the harmonies, the chords, the tempo, the structure, the engineering, the sound, the feeling, ... everything. Go for it! Cheers!

I've always loved how huge the mix on this album was.

The one thing you’ll hear over and over again from us tool fans: you don’t listen to tool; you EXPERIENCE tool!

8:24 is one the heaviest parts in all of metal (or whatever you wanna call it). Absolutely encapsulating

as a Tool fan from the beginning in 93.. i have said since this album came out.. that has to be the most powerful line i ever heard in a song “repugnant is a creator who would squandor the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here”

Maynards voice is so tonally perfect. Blows my mind.

This was such a surprise for me the first time I saw them live. I’d heard the album and gravitated to the ‘hits’ from this one but when I heard this one live in Vancouver, it was the highlight of the night. Absolutely blew me away. Such an intellectual song.

So happy to hear Tool on your channel again!

There used to be a video of this song linked to a short movie called The Gloaming that fit perfectly. It disappears and reappears from time to time.

One of my favorite moments of symbolism meeting composition meeting theme is the crushing alternating octaves they land on as the cathartic release at the end of the track. Adam and Justin are literally cutting their fretboards right in two.

Amazing Analysis! I love that lyric “Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of its fleeting time here”. The way I see it with that particular lyric is that I don’t take Maynard for a ‘god-fearing’ kinda guy. We can still gaze up and gasp at the magnificence of the heavens above us…without being blindly burdened with the baggage of ancient mythology.
