I do it the exact same but the the parabola decides to become a function (like the curved line) and I just give up and then my teacher after I email saying I need more time to do it correctly makes me rewrite my email to him 50 times before he says I have one day and I need a solid 20 minutes per equation and I have to do 24. So yea and then I watch every video ever and none of them make sense and I wonder why I decided to do a ton of math when it was easy so I'm here in eighth grade and my brain can't possibly comprehend this, so then I just watch a million Khan Academy videos a solid 50 times and its just one of the most confusing thigs ever, and all I want it to go back to slope of the line.

Adding the x to the function changes the graph only a little. Because 3x^2 is always a lot bigger than x (except when x is between -1 and +1) the x adds only a small amount to the function value. The graph shifts a small amount up and to the right.
