Was going to use this comment to link Meiko's Spotify page, only to find out that she is NOT on Spotify.
PLEASE support her music in other forms in the mean time, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also PLEASE support the tribute band LOTOS!! They're super passionate, dedicated, and deserve more recognition!

ALSO, minor correction: Some sources say Iyo Matsumoto debuted in 1981, though I believe 1982 was her *public* debut.

What’s amazing to me is that my mom is still a fan of Meiko since the 1980s.
My mom is the same age as Meiko and when i was little growing up on Misawa AFB (my mom is Japanese) and met my dad back in 1977 and married in the same year a year before my older sister.
My mom still watches Kimagure Orange Road and we still own a few laserdiscs from Meiko and cassette tapes. My mom is an Otaku still and i love the fact she grew up with things i still love today!

This kinda reminds me of this one other artist from the mid 90s/early 2000s named Miho Komatsu, who did music for anime such as Detective Conan. She hasn't been seen or heard from since the 2000s and even stranger is that not many people know what she looks like since she didn't make public appearances

Reminds me of the singer takako mamiya, she also went missing but a decade before and almost nothing is known about her, you should look into her!

Casiopea really struck a chord (or like 99 jazzy +7 -9 chords) in my heart. They really shaped my musical taste since that time my uncle gave me a bunch of their cassettes back then when I was still in junior high

I haven’t watched the video yet, but I gotta say that Nakahara Meiko is such a subconscious influence to me because her style is so classy and the music is so creative. What I love about her is that she’s so unique that you won’t get another Meiko. After watching I’ll edit this comment and give my full thoughts.

Edit: So I’m back after finishing the video, and first, I gotta say it’s impressive to be so loved and have your work respected so much that people are still seeking you while your whereabouts are completely unknown to the public. At the end, I gotta say I LOVE CITY POP. My Japanese professor actually grew up during the city pop era and worked with a few artists of the time, but as for my favorites, I’d say my top 5 are
1. Yoshioka Minako
2. Nakahara Meiji
3. Anri
4. Cindy
5. Yagami Junko
Because I’ve heard their songs so early in my childhood (about 8 years old), not ever knowing their names or song titles, and have always had a memory of their sounds lingering in my memory for 10 years until I found them. I never realized it until I started hearing their music again for the first time in a decade how much they shaped my taste in music as a whole. It’s special to me because the nostalgia and how much my taste was built in the joy and classiness of their music made me feel so much optimism that got me through a lower point in my life. It wasn’t the lowest, but anytime it felt like it could get there, they always lifted my soul to feel the joy of their songs and my early childhood.

She did not disappear! She simply retired from public eye

Appearing, making bangers, making a name for yourself, making a fat bag that could last for the rest of your life, and able to go ghost and live a private and peaceful life without worrying about Paparazzi or stans.

That sounds like the dream

I like all of Meiko’s songs, but my favorite of hers is Jigolo. Very moody. I’ve listened to a lot of her music and 80s Japanese music in general since moving out and living completely on my own. Much like it does for you, it has come to define a period of my life in a very sentimental way. The only difference being that this stage of my life is still ongoing.

Takako Mamiya dropped one banger of an album and then disappeared

When you say she's been "missing" it has a negative nuance like its a criminal case and something bad happened to her.
