Ukraine is celebrating a surprise attack that has put them in control of nearly 400 miles of Russian territory in the Kursk region. Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan, author of “Midnight in Moscow,” says Russian President Vladimir Putin’s pursuit of war “is coming back in a big way to hurt him and embarrass him” as Ukrainian troops overtake Russian territory.

Kursk is historically part of Ukraine. Russia is not a real country.

unfortunately the fact is, it's just as much trouble for those ukrainian soldiers as it is for putins side, just for different reasons.

this started a few days or so back, they are a single detached unit...they are entirely on their own logistically, this isn't an inverse invasion, ukraine can't afford that huge of an external attack while maintaining its defence, meaning all food, drink, ammo, medical supplies, gas etc etc, is running out by the second and they can only conserve or steal so much.

so really it's a coin toss right now who either folds first, or fails worse first.

because sure putins pissed...but everyone involved knows that what's pissing him off cant remain as it has for long.

If anyone has been paying attention, the Kursk region has approximately 100, 000 troops stationed about 25-30km behind the boarder region, that is army group North and they been there spread out throughout the forested areas. They’ve been there for months and are supposed to be the next axis of attack to open a new front. The Ukrainians went across the border so quickly apparently because for the last several weeks the Russians have been removing the mines they planted there at the start of the conflict in preparation for this large army advance. The forces that Ukraine encountered the first day or so are armed boarder patrol units and internal security forces. The troops they now are facing is the regular Russian army along with all their air support, attack helicopters and armoured units. It was a light lightning attack designed to surprise the Russians and blitzkreig their way to the Kursk nuclear power station to occupy it and use it as a bargaining chip knowing that Russia wouldn’t attack a nuclear power station on their territory with all the risk that would entail. The operation failed and now they will be screwed. Ukraine is being steamrolled back wards all up and down the line of contact so how are they supposed to hold out here…I get why they tried the gamble, they are collapsing and this might’ve stabilized the area and forced some kind of negotiation. My theory anyways….
