Interesting how the release of large females has been adapted by so many - correlating with a lot of self experts. It is probably wise to read the two research articles 1. "Fecundity and egg quality of Dusky flathead by Hicks, Kopf & Humphries" and 2. Reproduction and growth of dusky flathead by Gray & Barnes. The validated research is in contrast with a lot of media and boat ramp rhetoric. We may need to re-consider the current thinking if we want to maximise the number of viable eggs each year. If the objective is maximized viable eggs and reproduction then possibly we should be protecting another size parameter - not consistent around the coastline. We need to ask the question "What size group delivers the most viable eggs into the environment ?" If we can remain open and read these articles OBJECTIVELY then I think you will see we need a re-think. Remember it is not the number of eggs per female but the number of viable eggs a size group producers that provides maximum reproduction. Just something to consider before we all play follow the leader.
