Solo Overnight Wild Camp on a Scottish Loch

Whilst working in Edinburgh I took the opportunity to head up the West Highland Line for an overnight solo wild camp and my first attempt at a vlog (Couldn't resist adding a location-specific film reference, let me know if you spot it). After a quick and cosy bite in the station café I headed out around the shores of the loch to find a good spot. Then made a truly dismal attempt at fire-starting (an area I definitely intend to improve on!) and even had a little dip in the loch.

A wonderful experience and hopefully there will be more chances to get out in the woods again very soon.

Filmed on Sony A7iii and Mavic Mini

My girlfriend and I watched this last night. The production quality is off the charts in this genre. Amazing spot you found to hunker down.

It's criminal the algorithm doesn't reward this sort of quality by pushing it to more people. It's strange times when a guy filming himself, sleeping in an IKEA car park gets 10x the views.

Obviously, it's not all about views. But it must be nice to feel your hard works being validated in some way.

Looking forward to your next videos. That full frame goodness isn't wasted on me.

What a relaxing watch. You have a very easy presentation style and the music was suited to the video.

I really enjoyed that, thanks for taking the time to film and share.

Thanks for respecting the LNT ethos and even taking the neds leftovers out with you 👍

Excellently made little film. I recently went on my very first wild camp ( not solo ) with a mate. Really enjoyed it and hopefully I’ll pluck up the courage to go alone one day. Keep doing what you love! 👍

Just found this: a beautiful and well made film, thank you. I have just returned from a multi day wild canoe camp trip on another Loch, and you capture the essence of the place and wild camping very well. It's just an enduring shame that people have to scar every where they

Rannoch Station (Loch Laidon) is my young teenage memory-bank - 1963-1965. Stayed in the Polmadie Anglers' Railway Club coach at Rannoch Station; introduced to me by my Grampa Brown. Woken up by the delicious smell of fresh trout cooked gently in real butter - the trout being supplied by the night-fishermen.

After the trout starter, we fortified ourselves with ham/bacon, eggs, potato scones, black pudding, haggis, 'baked' beans and a slice of fried bread ... followed by (for me, a stripling of circa 14 years old) two slices of *well-fired* toast, washed down with some strong, sweet tea, replete with evaporated milk.

Ramble over.

Thank you for your own, personal, to-be future memories, Johna.

Stay free. Rab 🍻😎

Johna Hi 😊 Just came across your video it’s absolutely beautiful and the scenery is breathtaking! I’m going to Corrour next week for 4 days hiking wild camping so excited! I applaud you for taking a swim😆 I will have to give it a go as well! I love all the shots you filmed, I’m planing to film it as well so it gives me an idea how to approach it as it’s my first time filming. Look forward to more camping videos from you.
