What you actually need to do is click the two off-looking pixels in the bottom right, that's a mousetrap with cheese. Then using the tweezers on the mousetrap with cheese let's you separate them. Use the cheese on the mouse hole two rooms over and a mouse comes out. Having proven yourself an ally to mousekind, the mouse takes you to the mouse king. After doing three tasks for the mouse king he rallies his troops to invade the kitchen, in the process knocking the salt down.

I was fully expecting there to be a stool hidden somewhere in another level that you'd need to go back to get the salt, and the only hint would be a line of dialogue that is said every 5 minutes specifically in this room about how she wishes she had a stool. God this makes me want to play Pajama Sam again

As someone who grew up with point-and-click adventures being one of their favorite genres, this is more accurate than I can verbalize. I would have to sit for hours trying to think like a developer from the '90s while looking at every piece of equipment I had and what had worked in the past to figure out their moon logic puzzle. How some of them passed any point of the QA process is unthinkable to me. I'm convinced a good portion was just some guy deciding that everyone else could figure it out without ever asking anyone to check. The one with a goat is always on tier lists of worst puzzles and I can't even remember the game, the puzzle, or the logic but I don't remember it being that far out of left field compared to its contemporaries.

Too real. The problem with games like this tends to be you have to not simply think of a solution, but _exactly_ the same solution as the programmers, and then in _exactly_ the same way/phrasing/etc as them. I once had a text adventure game where this reached truly insane levels - a character had to go to the bathroom or die - and the command wasn't obvious. After trying tons of ways to say it, it ended up being a way just about nobody would ever say..."go potty." 🤦🤦
