The second someone says the started playing at a very young age, you can basically disregard their opinion on how to learn an instrument.

You have zero clue on how to learn an instrument, because you never consciously had to do any of it.

At such a young age you learn EVERYTHING intuitively. Languages, motor skills, thought patterns etc. That is the age where you can learn music like a language, aquire perfect pitch or incredibly relative pitch and so on.

It's actually far less impressive to learn an instrument at 5, compared to 35.
The person who learns at 35 can REALLY guide you through it and help you. For someone who learned at 5, it's almost like a inherent ability. It requires zero effort.
