DisplayPort cable DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE!

Not all DisplayPort cables are created equal.
A non Vesa Certified DisplayPort cable I bought on Amazon was sending power to my Mac Pro 5,1, from my Aorus OLED Monitor. It fried all my bus powered SSDs and my Sonnet McFivers USB C ports.

Vejry helpful, thank you. I just purchased a workstation with what I incorrectly assumed were HDMI connectors. I was about to buy my first DP cables but decided to check YT before ordering. What I had in my cart was not VESA certified and I have 2 USB powered external SSD storage devices. So, I emptied my cart and just ordered 2 from your link to say thanks for the help and for possibly saving me $400 in lost SSD devices.

When you read up on the DisplayPort connector in the VESA specification, it will show that both the source and the sink are supposed to provide power at 3.3V+-10% and 500mA on the DP_PWR pin, pin 20, of the connector. DP_PWR is very useful to supply power to dongles that are connected to the source or the sink.

very interesting, I had no idea. All I suffered from low quality cables is lower resolution and/or lower framerates. Time to pull up the old multimeter for some continuity tests on every cable for that pin.

🤯🤯 i just noticed the vga q-led on my motherboard
it was for the display port to hmdi cable
hope it didn't damage anything in this 1 day

Hello, I'm having trouble with my Mac Pro 5.1. When I try to boot using OpenCore EFI Boot, the system freezes and becomes unresponsive right after I select OpenCore EFI Boot from the boot menu. None of the inputs work and rebooting hasn't resolved the issue. Could you offer any guidance on this?

I have an issue I never experinced before, I found out that when I close or open something [game, browser], I find that the gpu and mem on msi after burner reach the maximum for 2 seconds then back to normal, l capped my fps through Nvidia control panel to 40 fps cause the monitor is 60hz refresh rate, and I use JSAUX DP cable, could it be the issue?
