I'm Canadian and married to a wonderful Filipina. One crucial thing that I imposed on myself was to learn the Pilipino language. Now I can speak it fluently and fully comprehend it. My wife can’t say negative things about me.😁

If you truly love the Philippines and the people, you will learn their language. We shouldn't expect Filipinos to adapt to us all the time. If you live here, you should adapt to them

I have a lot of foreign friends here in the Philippines. Despite living here in the Philippines for a long time, only a few of them are fluent in Filipino. This is because that Filipinos are bilinguals. Meaning to say, a lot of Filipinos are fluent in English. Because of this, foreigners living here in the Philippines are not that pressured in learning our language.

Hi Nelly, it's not a problem not knowing the different kinds of dialects as long as you know tagalog its because it is the universal tongue in the Philippines. It means as long as you speak tagalog, you will never get lost for everyone in the country speaks and understands tagalog. Whether you are in Visaya or Mindanao, they understand and speak tagalog. If you ask them something in tagalog, they will surely reply tagalog to you. Just that simple.

Yes Nelly Tagalog is universally understood wherever you go in the Philippines. Learn Tagalog language and you can communicate to Filipinos wherever places you want to visit the country.

I suggest if you're planning to learn Philippine Language You guys should consider focusing on Tagalog/Filipino since it is the national language it can be used everywhere in the country, don't get distracted by the dialects.

Many Filipinos are multilingual! We acquired our 1st (native) language at home, and Tagalog and English at school. Filipino (the official name) is not going to die yet!

Nelly, I'll give you some basic Tagalog that we use everyday.

1.Magandang Umaga🌞
-Good Morning
2.Kamusta ka?
-How are you?
3.Ano ang ginagawa mo?
-What are you doing
4.Saan ka pupunta?
-Where are you going?
5.I love you😊❤️
-Mahal kita
6.Ingat ka palagi
-Take care always

I understand Jessica was essentially learning multiple languages at a young age and learning 3 languages or more is difficult even if young.

I wish you and Jessica the best in learning Tagalog and thank you for appreciating Philippines.

Don't worry Nelly, all Filipinos know Tagalog as our "national language" even we have our own dialects in different regions.

I grew up in Bontoc, mt. Province but tagalog is rarely spoken except maybe in pilipino language class in 1950's and 60's. We use to make fun of our pilipino teacher up to a point she gets frustrated. I started to speak tagalog only when I left the Cordillera region. I agree with Jessica, Filipinos should preserve our national culture and pilipino language.

One thing that will really push you to learn the language I think, is when you are dating a Filipino man and things are quite serious. That will make you so eager to learn. I have noticed that when you are dating someone of different language and culture, you get inspired to learn.

I really appreciate the effort of ForeigNoys trying to speak a Filipino language. I think it’s best to speak Tagalog since you’re based in Manila, and it’s one of the National language. But again, really appreciate the effort because learning to speak another language is hard. It takes practice.

I think for Jessica it's an extra pressure to learn Filipino because more korean vloggers are becoming fluent in the language like Dasuri, Ryan Bang and others. 😁😁

My daughter was born in canada, I raised her in the phil from 1 year old to 7 years old but she speaks very canadian english. The funny thing is instead of she has to learn the bisaya or tagalog, the yaya and the rest of the people working with us were the one learning good english.(not bad huh) When she went back to canada its just easy for her the get along with friend because of her fluency of the english language.now shes now 12 years old, she starts to learn tagalog by googling words she wants to know.

You're doing great, Nelly. One language at a time. The only things which matters is your well being and mental health. Enjoy your journey and it's always good to see happy.

I am not embarassed to say this, I have Filipino blood but I do not know how to speak the language fluently. I took months of tagalog classes and have not mastered the language, just the basics. I get confused with tagalog and visayan. There was a Filipino man that said something very bad and humiliating to me because I didnt know the language. Honestly, I don't expect non-Filipinos and foreigners to learn our language. We already appreciate you guys for loving our country and spreading awareness of our culture. NELLY never ever feel pressured that you have to learn everything, especially the language. I noticed that people tend to pressure people, especially foreigners. Just let people be.
