Glenn: New TikTok filter could be DISASTROUS for society

Earlier this year, TikTok unveiled a new filter (the ‘Glamour’ filter) which could bring with it DISASTROUS consequences for our society. Glenn and Stu explain how this new filter doesn’t just smudge some edges or add makeup — it completely TRANSFORMS your face into one that looks like a model’s. What will this mean for teenage girls? How will this affect beauty standards? Why aren’t the same women who were once outraged at magazines for photoshopping images speaking out in the same way now? And is this kind of terrifying filter available for TikTok users in China, or just in the Western World? Glenn and Stu discuss all these questions, plus more…

Not long ago I took a good, long look at myself after stepping out of the shower. All I could think of was “ I’m really getting old!” I’m 79. Then a thought popped into my head, don’t complain, this body has served you well for all these years, it’s amazing! I’m basically very healthy, still active and independent, what a marvelous piece of engineering my God put into my body! It changed how I look at myself. Hope this brightens someone’s day!

This is damaging to boys to continually have expectations of girls to look this way also. The porn epidemic is bad enough, but this will make it more difficult for our children to engage in real life relationships.

It’s perfect, now we’re in a beauty dystopia. People really need to reconnect, in person.

Teenagers, especially girls, takes viciousness to a whole new level today. I see my 14 yo daughter struggle with her self image and worth daily.

Online dating is over. You seriously can't tell who is a real woman anymore. You have to go old school again and meet women in the real world. This technology is getting in it's own way. It's too good for it's own good.

Women, in groups, are simply, unforgiveably mean. I learned that early on in my teenage years and never was a cliquey person.

As this continues to happen social media in general will simply become an untrustworthy cartoon of life. People will simply discount anything they see on social media.

Cover girl magazine and vogue was a killer on girls self image way back when. This has to be magnified 100× over!

A few years ago I went to see KC and the Sunshine Band at the Hard Rock Casino in Seminole Florida. I had this image of KC from back in the 70’s, and when he came out I was shocked to see brutal the years have been to him. The music was great, don’t get me wrong, I just hadn’t seen him in 40 years. After the first song he says, “I know what you are all thinking… What the Hell happened?!?”… the audience roared and he laughed too. Great concert. We all get old. Too funny. Gotta have a sense of humor.

What better way to get faces for facial recognition? People seriously need to understand what is going on. It's even more than those of you can imagine.

This is nuts!! Let's just keep distorting reality even more. Pretty soon, no one's gonna know what's real and what's not. Sad times!

As I have always said and always will, filters should be illegal on dating sites.

The Jetsons cartoon series made an episode about friends of Jane, who were very jealous, because Jane always looked beautiful on the video phone. At the end of the show, they showed how she managed it, when her phone app broke and she got caught and actually looked bad in the mornings. Reality has a way of setting things straight or even..

The sad thing is the reason why girls are already self-conscious and down on themselves and more suicidal and depressed is because we already had these kinds of filters maybe not to this exact extreme but on Snapchat the filters alter your facial structure as well it's very sad the way things are going

Another reason not to use dating apps. You will never know what’s real.

The best part of the Hollywood magazine tabloids was catching the actresses in the morning at the mailbox before makeup. You see the sleepy puffy face and say wow, she is just a mere mortal.

A consequence that comes to mind is, this filter is like a form of identity theft. But in a way that’s different then “regular identity theft”. What happens if a man or woman is using this filter in a dating type of situation where you are just meeting that person. The filter has always been on from the start, and now an altered version of that person is all you know. Then you agree to meet. Met up and the person that approached you and said “Hi, it’s me”. Your reaction is, “Who are you? You’re not the person in the picture I have”. Now you begin to doubt the identity of the person you’d been talking to. Then doubt the credibility of that person in general.

No TikTok in my phone! I never liked it, it spies on you. The cargo shorts comment 😂. It's true, it's always a bit more difficult for women that pressure of looking good. You two need no filters, you are adorable and gorgeous!♡♡
