the reason why 39 isn't the mode is because the question is askinig 'for balmoral hotel'
you'll see that there are 2 sections: 1 for abbey hotel, and the other for balmoral.
if the question asked for abbey hotel, then the mode would be 39.

@omar3211 Nope - in Balmoral it is 50 as it occurs 4 times

@stefjw21 To find the middle value. The middle of 3 numbers is the 2nd number. (3+1)/2 = 2 the 2nd number in. and so on.

I never use this method as it is to confusing where you have to round up or round down at times. I prefer the method I use in my tutorials.

@Insane54321 This does not give the middle value of n values to the left of the median. (See my tutorials on this for the median of discrete data)

The question asks only in the Balmoral hotel. Just sat here thinking the same thing and then i saw it.

So would it be correct to do (n+1)/4 for the lower quartile and 3(n+1)/4 for the upper quartile?
If not, then what would one do when they'd have to find the n.25th or n.75th value?
