A left-handed samurai, sitting there with his sword to his right smirking "This fool thinks I'm at a disadvantage"

There's something similar in designs of European castles: the spiral staircases are designed so that it's easy to fight with your right hand if you're coming down, but difficult if you're going up, which was designed to inconvenience potential invaders. This means that hypothetically, left handed people would be worse at defending but much better at attacking, although I don't know of any definite examples of this.

Meanwhile in Europe: "You are left handed? You're going to the vanguard. (+99%win chance)

Being left handed also gave you a massive advantage in duels because you knew exactly how they would attack and they would be confused by your mirrored style.

Man, if I was told I HAD to be right handed as a left handed, I would just commit seppuku right then and there.

Edit : The fact that I have to put this edit here makes me sad for humanity. THIS IS A JOKE, THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

So if a samurai was a lefty, they would have to learn to be a righty?

I'm surprised no samurai or military leader took advantage of that right hand rule by training their troops in left hand only.

The enemy would not know what to do lol.

they are practical, and there is a clear logic behind it

Someone with a katana before and a child hits his katana: "so you have chosen death?"

For the second one. It has nothing to do with scabbards bumping, so realistically it would be more polite to have your sword on your left hand side rather than your right. Simply telling the samurai "I am left handed" would probably make it acceptable, because having it on your right side would mean you can draw it easier.

Imagine the amount of left handed ronins

While yes, left handed people did have to learn how to use the right hand, this was a major advantage. Power from the katana is generated from the left hand. Meaning left handing samurias would be able to swing their katanas faster than right handed individuals while have the same dexterity, assuming sufficient training

it's actually better to be left handed. as a right handed person you are trained against right handed people. as a left handed person, you will most likely still be trained against right handed people. the left handed person does have an advantage

Wouldn’t Left-handed samurai have an advantage? They would have to train with many Right-handed people, but not many Right-Handed could train with Left-handed people, so the Right Handed wouldn’t exactly be used to a Left-handed.

Ah yes left handed people (I am left handed) probably the most discriminated against group on the entire planet.
