Interesting section of Yokai. Had not known of most.
I will give you a tale from a forgotten land lost in the flow of time...
known simply as "beware the cloudless night"; it tells of a legend of why certain things were held dear.

The Gods had grown tired and were preparing to leave at this time; many attribute these events to that; I say however, that is but only an omen to the events and not the cause.
In the lands where the sun and moon were rarely seen; There was a simple but effective warning given to each king.
Beware the cloudless night;
In its light comes the endless blight;
The one that walks between the rows;
Knowing where each of us has been or will go.
They stalk only while they are not blind;
The find no equal in spirit or mind;
For all their might and wisdom, they hold but a single fear;
death lies behind them; and they can only be harmed from the rear.
So, beware the cloudless night; for you will be within its sight; and if you find that you are not;
it falls to you to not be caught;
To find a way, and to slay the thing before the dawn of day.
Or forever lost are the ones it ate; their souls gone it now to late.
The first 20 or so took it serious and each day they devoted to appeasing any threat that might exist. The offerings did vanish so it was taken as a sign that they would need not fear.
The next 30 or so were not as lavish in their trying to appease and again everything seemed fine; but in the end the last 19 have not and each passing of the kingdom things have indeed gotten worse.
Now the current king has been hard on his people even if they even tried; deciding that if they have enough to give on a false threat, then they have enough to be taxed more.
Albeit subtle it can be said, that the fields do better as the suns light comes stronger each year; and each year the publics safety at night is easier to manage with more moon light showing.
Understandably this king takes it as a sign from the Gods that everything is fine... better than fine; heck they must approve.
Little do they know why the clouds were there;
little does he know why the thing was blind;
little does this last king know;
for he knows nothing and rules a kingdom of snow.
So it is on the 70th year of his rule; that the sky is first seen.
That the forest is first known;
That the trap has been set.
It that walks between the rows has no description that can bring you comfort;
It that walks between the rows has no form to bring you understanding;
It that walks between the rows has no sanity to bring you reason;
It is hunger;
It is loss;
It was the clouds.
So when it comes; it takes its time;
So when it hunts; it knows its prey;
So when it acts; it has chose the time and day.
During the longest night;
While a Lunar eclipse lasts the night;
It comes as a Vampire; and feeds on your fright.
It comes slowly through the trees;
as it feasts as It please...
It then comes at a leisurely pace;
Through the rows of fields and your city like place;
To eat everyone;
Devour every race;
This thing from between the rows;
Knows every hiding place.
But is in this form;
That hope still remains, It is a being;
Thus it can be defined;
Thus it can be understood;
Thus logic can find where it is actually blind.
Along with it came a tree, alone in the forest it be;
Nothing special sets it aside;
but from its branches, the Hunter may die;
One thrust from behind;
not seen by the all seeing eye;
It that walks between the rows, will then die;
returning once more to blot out the sky.
Its eternal.
The cycle begins anew; now ask yourself new king what shall you do?

The point of the story is that one needs not fix what is not broken. Progress is not the absence of tradition; but rather understanding the reason for the tradition and adapting it the current circumstance.
The kings that did the thing and even when questioning did not treat it with disrespect were fine; the one that decided to be calous about it and encouraged others to do the same; got punished.
If you got a different message then please share.

atavism of the Mozuku a term from Yu Yu Hakusho but more to the point I think its relatable to the Yokai.
The term refers to a genetic link between a being of spirit and a current human; a gene that passes through the generations until it finds a suitable host to return.
I wonder if that is the case with some Yokai?
As in, currently extinct but will randomly return in the future if their relatives meet some sort of condition. Something that could be mistaken as psychic powers or the ability to speak to the dead or see the future is just those genes acting up.
Its an interesting thought at least.

Wait just a moment... are Gagoze one of Thors children after death or something after death?
Also made me think of Heracles.

penchant is pronounced like the 2 words pen and chant put together.

You should probably look into how Japanese words are pronounced if you're gonna do a series where you'll have to say a lot of them.

you should have had someone teach you the pronunciations.

I tried to enjoy this channel. I really did but the 30 minute ads in the middle of a video that I have to skip when I’m trying to listen to the video when doing anything else, is annoying.
