Key Abilities
Circle Spells (Level 3): You gain powerful circle spells based on the moon, which includes Cure Wounds, Moonbeam, Conjure Animals, and even Mass Cure Wounds at higher levels. Importantly, you can now cast these spells while in your wild shape form, a huge improvement since normally Druids can’t cast spells in wild shape until level 18!
Circle Forms (Level 3): Your wild shape forms are significantly improved:
You can assume beast forms with a challenge rating equal to your Druid level divided by 3, allowing you access to stronger creatures earlier.
You also get an improved Armor Class (AC) in wild shape, which equals 13 + your Wisdom modifier if it’s higher than the beast’s original AC. This is a huge durability boost compared to the old rules where beast AC was often too low.
Improved Circle Forms (Level 6):
Lunar Radiance: Your wild shape attacks can deal radiant damage, which is almost always better than standard damage types. This will help bypass many resistances.
Increased Toughness: You can add your Wisdom modifier to Constitution saving throws, improving your ability to maintain concentration on spells like Moonbeam or Fountain of Moonlight while in wild shape form.
Moonlight Step (Level 10): This feature lets you teleport up to 30 feet as a bonus action while in wild shape, and your next attack after teleporting has advantage. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier and regain uses on a long rest. You can also regain uses by expending a spell slot, making it incredibly flexible for repositioning during combat.
Lunar Form (Level 14):
Improved Lunar Radiance: You can now deal an extra 2d10 radiant damage once per turn with your wild shape attacks. When combined with the Fountain of Moonlight spell or your Primal Strikes, this can lead to massive amounts of damage every round without spending extra resources.
Shared Moonlight: You can teleport an ally within 10 feet of you along with your Moonlight Step, allowing for creative and strategic team play, either to save an ally or bring them into a more advantageous position.
Why to Watch
Casting in Wild Shape: The biggest improvement for the Moon Druid is the ability to cast your circle spells while in wild shape starting from level 3, making it an early powerhouse compared to 2014.
Tank and Damage Dealer: With increased AC, temporary hit points scaling with your Druid level, and the ability to deal significant radiant damage, the Moon Druid excels as both a frontline tank and a powerful damage dealer.
Teleportation and Mobility: Moonlight Step at level 10 allows for incredible mobility, giving you tactical options for both offense and defense.
Team Utility: At level 14, Shared Moonlight lets you teleport an ally with you, opening up creative ways to protect or reposition your teammates during combat.
S-Tier Tank: The combination of all these abilities makes the Circle of the Moon Druid a top-tier tank while still having full access to ninth-level spells and healing abilities.
