Please note that in this video, I only talk about food prices, transport, and rent. Of course, we also need to consider disposable income, which is the remaining income after CPF (SG)/EPF (MY) deductions, monthly bills, and installment payments. What do you think?

Singaporean here. I have BKT in a food court in KL. It was RM21. You will never find SGD21 BKT in a food court in Singapore. So what you said makes a lot of sense. Props for doing this video.

Properties and cars are expensive, after all we are a small country and land is limited. That's a given. Everything else is still doable.

The food court in KL is soooo expansive. It is more expansive even after conversion. I had a bowl Yong Tau Foo for 26RM... Converted to SGD it is 8SGD.. Omg that bloody expansive.. How can any locals afford that!?

Singaporeans are too pampered by the efficient Singapore government. They are ALWAYS complaining about food price increases. A meal that takes up just 0.1% of the median salary is very low.

Singapore imports everything, and prices are kept relatively low. Malaysia has food produces and yet prices are high. SG MP is right, food prices are definitely cheaper than in Malaysia.

What you said is for a Malaysian working in Singapore, its costed the transport and rental charge, as for s Singaporean like me we lived much cheaper that what you said, we don't need a car to move around and don't need to pay pay high rental😢 for a room, all Singaporeans lived in their own house, the HDB flat.

As a Malaysian you are absolutely right. Compared to the salary of locals in ringgit, the food in Malaysia is very expensive. The minimum average pay in Malaysia is RM1, 500 - RM2500. I earn about RM12, 850 and my wife earns about RM9, 630. We live in the outskirts of Ipoh. Houses are cheaper than in KL or Penang but eating out, though not as expensive in KL or Penang, can still be considered expensive to low wage earners. No doubt, you can still find RM1.00 nasi lemak in gunung rapat, ipoh..

Young Malaysian expenses = car + rent + food. while young singaporean expenses = food and public transport only ($100/ month)

The problem is if you are a Local, .. What's RENT? You live with your parents until you get married or when you hit 35 years old, you BUY a singles flat with your CPF and you own the flat already.. so whats rent.. unless you are a foreigner.
I bought a singles flat for SGD 147k for a tiny 2 room flat but at least I bought it with my CPF and so No need for mortgage at all..
So I see ppl talking about $2k rents and such .it's mostly for foreigners.
If you are a local Singaporean.. housing is either "free if you stay with ur parents" or you just buy your own flat.. later on in life.. so a local SG should hardly need rent

Unless you want to move out of your parents house at 20+ and live on your own and want to rent a flat.
Thats your problem lah.. you can travel from a Jurong to city area with public transportation in under 1.5hrs so there is no need to rent a place "nearer" to your workplace.. unlike if you live in Penang and work in KL and need to rent a place in KL

I worked in Singapore for more then 10 years, I rent a room, take public transport to work and eat in food courts and cooked simple meal at home. I save money every month and can afford branded things. Same jobs in Malaysia not enough, must own a car to travel to work that will take up half my salary. The best is earn in SGP and spend in Msia. One thing bad in Sgp is always felt small cant afford car and Condo/landard house too many super rich people make you feel really poor.

Singaporean save more beco, u dont need a car in SG. And u definitely need a car in Malaysia. So car expensive is not relevant to us.

If i not wrong these ranking for expensive city their fomulation took in cost of housing and car which is taxed heavily . car is not needed in sg and local can buy house directly from government with grants and subsidy

Malaysia townships should focus on improving hawker centre/community food court & impose hawker incentives to reduce rental & electricity costs in ‘serving price’.

But first of all, hawker centre should not built based on ‘80s local bus station’ architecture & interior concept. Plus, those stalls look like they’re cramped into a place.

‘Shop lot’ restaurants business & so called ‘indoor mall food court’ are not sustainable for business longevity (especially new business), costs & customer friendly price rate.

Strategic location, price rate & ambiance definitely ensure customer counts coming into a hawker centre.

idk why you keep stating you need a car in KL. no, you don't need a car in KL. KL has the most extensive public transportation in malaysia (although it pretty bad when compare to SG). You have MRT, LRT, Monorail, BRT, rapidkl buses, free GOKL buses, if you need one, you can just use Grab. Yes, Malaysia is car centric country but that doesn't mean you need to be one. Most people used motorcycle as well. You don't even stated the price comparison about the price of transport cost and the rent in Malaysia like you compare the price of the chicken rice?

there is RM50 (~SGD15) monthly unlimited pass of public transportation in KL for adult. I can only find Adult Monthly Travel Pass (AMTP) for SGD128. There are more you need to compare lah, healthcare, taxes, education, utilities than a plate of chicken rice. lol

Its the currency exchange rate

Singapore maintains a trajectory of always appreciating the currency so that imports is cheap.
