Classical Guitar Lesson: Carulli Andante in A Minor Op. 241, No 18

Piece: Andante in A minor
Composer: Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1842)

During his life, Carulli wrote many small student level pieces designed to work on introducing/reinforcing technique and musical ideas. In "Andante" the student has to combine the 'Bass/Chord' (Boom/Chick) technique with alternating free-stroke scales in the A section. In the B section, the student has a melody with an alberti bass accompaniment. I use this piece to help a student become comfortable with this change in textures. In addition, in the left hand there are some slurs that provide an extra challenge for the student.

There are no slurs in the original. It's nice but. . .really not necessary.

Thank you for celebrating your 20.000+ views with teaching us. :)

I have been working on this beautiful piece for months now, I just have a block about speeding it up with my left hand, especially in the CDC part switching from 1-3 to 2-4 and back.

Guess I need to practice further then and be less frustrated.

Interesting that you partly use different fingering than the one in my book.
