On paper this 911's spec was close to perfect for me, unfortunately it didn't seem to work on a typical UK road and fell to the bottom of my 992 dream list, still makes it a mighty car!

I went from a PDK 992 C2S to a Manual 992 GTS and totally get why its not for everyone. But for when, how and where I drive, I love it and wouldn't go back to PDK.
Takes a few weeks (not days) to get used to but well worth it.

I own nearly this exact spec (not green, no buckets) and while I agree that the car rides a little too lively and loud at times, I do love the manual gearbox and wouldn’t have it any other way. I didn’t buy my car as a daily, and this is not the model if you want more of a daily or GT. I bought mine for the vigorous weekend outing and occasional track day, and for those use cases, I think it delivers in spades.

One day you Jack and Harry are going to have an almighty pile-up on those S bends 😄 I feel I know each piece of roadside hedgerow and stone wall far to well.

Sorry, same deal, after owning 996 gt3rs, 997 gt3, Spyder 987, Carrera gt, 991 Turbo s, 981 Spyder, I had a deposit on a GTS and drove it Silverstone PEC, its good. And thats it, bought a 718 Spyder, and thats epic, not always about numbers.

I've never known what the fascination with cup holders in cars is. If you need a drink, stop off somewhere and have one in comfort. If you pick up your drink when driving, expect points on your licence or a scolded crutch, at best. Cup holders are for the Starbuck poser set, and not for a drivers car.

Long ratios have been a Porsche thing for years. Not sure what the air cooled were like but certainly the 996.2 is pushing 74mph in 2nd and over 100mph in 3rd at the red line. An option for different ratios from the factory to provide better acceleration but a lesser top speed would be good

I have rear wheel steer in my 992 C2S - I'd put good money on that not being the cause of the 'nervousness' you're feeling from the chassis (laregly because it doesn't tend to actually do anything at moderate speeds, only low for manoeuvres and high for stability), but I would point to the generally higher spring rates on the GTS suspension.

Having owned a 992 gts, i can say that Joe’s assessment is both against accepted wisdom but absolutely spot on! At last someone tells the truth about overly hard suspension for UK roads and ridiculous tire roar. It is a great car but to me, these were fundamental flaws meaning that the car had to go.

3.66s to 60 in manual? deary me that's nuts for a 480hp RWD car! Porsche knows how to build it

Refreshing. A Porsche review that does not just repeat the usual manual trops.
PDK with certain engines, gear ratios and power outputs is simply better than with a manual. Saying it doesn’t mean you are any less of a driving enthusiast!!

Awesome, real world, review. There are too few reviews like this out there.

Have watched a number of races against the GT3 and can confirm with a PDK the GTS distroys the GT3 in a straight line. Tho game over at the corners.

If they gave the manuals a proper launch control (allow a higher launch and clutch dump) this could easily hit 60 in the low 3's.

I’m confused by the contradiction of “if you’re going for another gear it’s too fast” vs the subsequent criticism of the long legged first three gears. On one hand you’re concerned that you’re shifting up quickly and building speed too fast, and on the other hand you’re suggesting gear changes are too far apart.
Also, given you’re comments on the ample torque, it sounds like early shifting is an option for making swift progress at road speeds without losing your license, and using that broad spread on track days when you’re free to hit the redline & be a hooligan.
Not suggesting PDK isn’t the best fit, but it does seem like the real criticism here is that the car is too fast for the road, rather than it’s manual gearbox,

Interestingly if you read the early reviews of the McLaren F1 with it’s enormous torque and long legged manual gearbox you’ll note what you’ve observed as a criticism of the GTS manual was seen as a positive (in terms of performance and usability) in the F1.

I decided on a 991 T, with pdk, interior package, sport chrono, 18 way seats, adaptive cruisecontrol. Love it for, backroads, highway, autobahn, roadtrips, daily driving. GTS extra turbo horsepower did no add enough for me. GT3 means mostly second gear or loosing my drivers license really fast 😊

I have a 2022 992 GTS that I ordered and spec'd. The trans was a huge issue and there are always doubts as to wether or not I made the right choice. I ultimately chose the PDK because the Manual was the 7-spd and not the 6-spd from the GT3. Had the trans been the same (6-spd) I likely would have went manual. I ALSO really toiled over the buckets w/ lightweight vs. 18-way seats. I ultimately chose to go 18-way and then upped the spec inside with additional leather for a luxdaily vibe. My rationality was that it is NOT a GT3 and that I should not try to make it one. So, I am waiting on a GT3 or Spyder RS allocation (I actually have a better shot at the Spyder RS). One of those cars will be my bucket car. It is worth noting that no matter what we have (at any level) there is always something more out there. As for me I'm trying to just be satisfied and stop chasing the perfect spec on the perfect car (it does not exist).

Nice review Joe. I recently went back to a 992 after owning a 992 Carrera S and a brief flirt with a g80 Xdrive. This time I went cabriolet for a change but did try a GTS.. the extra 30bhp didn’t seem apparent to me but the ride quality even in the comfort mode tyre pressures was to much for daily imo! the cabriolet is definitely softer than my coupe was but unless your on a track you won’t notice the cornering difference. The 992 capability for hauling ass in any form is staggering.

Everyone has his own opinion, I daily my Porsche it's a Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid I live in New York and I have a family and a big dog, and I can fit everything inside the car. I ordered a 911GT3 Touring towards the end of last year I should be getting it soon, I ordered it with a manual that's why I love Porsche they give you a choice. I will be using it primarily on the weekends when it's me and my wife, I am just glad to be able to afford cars like this and to get my kids interested in high-performance cars.
