Where I used to live in southern Ontario I used to pick every spring a good crop of morels. I have no memory of seeing these Velvet Foot species. It was a climax uphill mixed wood stand of red and white pine and sugar maple and beech. We had no elm. And all the morels I picked there were black capped. Every year I would disperse pieces of several morels in the hope of "reseeding" the soil. They never failed to show up. But now I live farther north and only once have I found morels. But the Chanterelles and King Boletes more than make up for my loss. Thanks for this video.

So glad I found this channel! I'm in Missouri, and have begun paying a lot more attention to the mushrooms I see on my friends property and in state parks (I live in town). I know not everything is the same here as it is where you live, but enough similarities that I find this information VERY useful. Thank you so very much!

Awesome info Adam! I’ve had a hunch the tree I’ve been finding enokis on is possibly an elm, and now I’ll be checking that spot this spring for morels! Thank you so much!!

I live in the Connecticut River valley between VT&NH. We find our Morales around ash trees more often then not. Happy forging.

I'm from Germany and i've never heard of a strong association of either velvet foot or morell with elm trees. The latter grows predominantly with ash trees here (fraxinus excelsior).
