Just use the simple formula =TEXT(D15, "ddd") (change D15 as needed).

Thanks for your content, Oaktree! One question: any chance of using a similar formula (converting numeric dates into text weekdays) to display the day as an abbreviation (only the initial)?

Thanks :)
Can I have a different language showing, even if my interface is in English? (trying to show the days in Hebrew)

How do you return the month in words using a formula?

Hi, this is very helpful. I'm using google sheets to create a chart, but the days can only be sorted as a text, e.g. it starts with "F"Friday, and ends with "W" Wednesday, do you have video tutorial for this?

Say I want to enter a date in a row of cells each cell a different date. How do I check to see which day that date is and then if it finds the day of the week it sums up the numbers from another row of cells for only that day? So say I have a roll that has 5/22/22, 5/22/22, 5/24/22, 5/24/22, 5/24/22, 5/24/22, 5/25/22, 5/25/22, 5/25/22 etc and then I have a dollar amount beside each of those in another row so say first roll is A1-A20 and the second row is B1-B20 first row has the dates and second has the dollar values. I want to create 7 columns with the days of the week and I want to sum up all money collected on each day in it's own box with only one function. So I want an average amount of money collected for each day of the week. Pulled from the numbers I enter on my rows.

Girlfriend: "I want you to impress me. Are you good at dates? <3"
Me: "Yes! I've been working with dates in google sheets, ask me anything!"

It's remarkable that as long as spreadsheets have been around, and as easy as it would be to add a function to return the day of the week as text given a date... that no one at Google has ever added the feature that is trivial and often asked for. Please. Please. If you're a bored developer at Google, ask to work on this. I'm sure there's a an open engineering request from about 10 years ago.
