Sixty second philosophy: philosophy as calling everything into question

What is philosophy? The love of wisdom, of knowledge. Truth. I don’t know.

We can talk about epistemology more, what constitutes knowledge, ways in which we can come to know things. What “knowing” even means. We can investigate these, try to find frameworks. And we will investigate these together.

Afterall, it’s about the investigation. As a cliched millennial, I might say it’s about the journey.

Philosophy is constantly scaring me, and forcing me to reconsider everything I’ve ever thought to be true. It just continually reaffirms that I don’t know anything. And that’s also okay though.

We don’t need to know the answer so long as we keep asking the question.

We need to stare into that abyss.

But we’ll also overcome it.

I want to help all of you question everything. I want to guide you in fear.

I want you to really confront what you think you know. Put it all at stake. I want to push you.

Because if you’re not putting it all at stake, if you’re not doing this in a fruitless effort in search of truth. What are you doing?

I pursue philosophy, constantly facing the abyss, putting everything into question for an answer that I will never get. And it makes me feel so alive. It makes me feel. Everything.

Like a contradiction, even though I can never truly complete my search for truth, I will never stop.

This investigation actually brings me joy, and fulfillment. I’ve never felt more terror, ecstasy, or excitement than when I bring everything into question.

I never feel more alive than when I am actively engaged in this.

I derive satisfaction from a journey that has no answer.

If that’s not absurdity, I don’t know what is.

So please, join me in this absurd endeavour. Let’s get weird and philosophical. It’s going to be great.

And as always, if there's a concept or philosopher you'd be interested in hearing more about, let me know!
