Polygon had an excellent article on the whole "which story should the Muppets adapt" topic around Christmas 2023 that pointed out a flaw with the meme. To paraphrase: Muppet Christmas Carol worked in part because, while all your favorite Muppets were cast as major characters from the story, the most important characters (Scrooge and the three spirits) were played either by humans or by new puppets specifically crafted to fill those roles. That allowed them to tell the story with sincerity while also showcasing the goofs and charisma of the Muppet cast.

See also Muppet Treasure Island. People joke that Tim Curry is basically a Muppet, but his emotional arc isn't with a Muppet, but with another human actor (Kevin Bishop, who plays Jim Hawkins).

I agree and appreciate your take on the Muppet Pride and Prejudice 🙏 people always ask "who would be the one human" and ignore the fact that Christmas Carol, Treasure Island, and, yes, even Wizard of Oz, all have multiple human characters! Especially for characters involved in the main emotional relationships. And the cameos are such a big part of the non-adaptation movies!

The Godzilla franchise has been going for 70 years and has a rich, expansive history. I think for your videos it would depend what framework you choose for exploring that history. I think one interesting way to look at is through the various era starters - the original 1954 film of the Showa era, The Return of Godzilla from 1984 that starts the Heisei era, Godzilla 2000 (1999) that starts the Millennium era and Shin Godzilla (2016) that starts the Reiwa era. It shows how each installment is a response to and reflection of the various sociopolitical issues and pressures at the time which typical generates a stronger film than the average "versus" movie where Godzilla clobbers a giant beetle with drills for hands.

I wonder what Peter Jackson's HOBBIT trilogy would have looked like with more puppetry. LOTR worked so well because it was a nice hybrid of mostly practical FX and miniatures combined with the then-new CGI and motion-capture tech. But the HOBBIT trilogy as a whole looked way too digitized and just kind of aesthetically ugly.

Farscape is a Henson show through and through, Brian Henson was a driving force in it's creation and production and you can tell. It's visual design feels distinctly of a kind to the fantasy Henson produced in the 80s, taking those weird stylized and stagey environments but giving them a sci-fi bent; look at the main set of the show, an organic living spaceship. It's "Muppets do Star Trek" rather than "Star Trek with Muppets", Jim Henson Company didn't just work on it, they *made* it. It's as much theirs as The Dark Crystal and not just in a spiritual sense, Brian Henson holds the rights to the property.

A TV show with film quality Henson puppetry (not limited to the cast, there's plenty of one-shot muppets), some of the best television CGI of the time and it's very much not for children. 4 seasons, a mini series (which Henson directed!) and a legacy of serving as a blueprint for what are basically the only MCU movies that don't feel like they're designed by a committee. It was a boundary pusher in all kinds of ways and it and serves as a refutation to the claim that post Jim's death there was a lack of ambition from the company. Jim Henson would've been proud, it accomplishes so much of what he was trying to do.

You should probably watch it.

Thank you so much for responding to my comment Patrick and of course Emma, it actually came as a shock and surprise that you did so as well as for clarifying the Ghost Jake situation.

Also, speaking to your itch to see Muppets/puppets in Marvel, I would love, even though I know it probably won’t occur in Deadpool & Wolverine, for them to bring in Howard/Deadpool the Duck but utilizing the 1986 puppet instead of the CG character that cameoed in the Guardians trilogy. That would allow the 86’ film to be, not redeemed, but given a better time to utilize the elements and characters that worked. This would be along the same lines of Anson Mount appearing as Blackbolt despite that character not being in the worst Marvel show or, so I have been told by my comic friends.
