One time, I ended up venting to an artist I was commissioning just because my mental health is shitty in general, and he tried to offer me a mental health discount, but I declined it. Additionally, I couldn't give him an upfront payment due to PayPal being a nuisance, but he gave me the drawing anyways, and 3 months later, I gave him 1500% of what he had originally charged. (He was severely undercharging; $10 for 2 full-body drawings fully-colored and shaded; so I asked him how long they took and paid him $10/hour instead.)

It's been about a year since I gave him the payment and he's one of my best friends now as well as my mentor. I've also given him advice on pricing and he now charges $50/drawing with a 50% increase per additional character, which is much more reasonable. Using this pricing system, I paid him $75 for another commission of about the same quality. Additionally, I recently found out that his family is poor and the money from the commissions went towards the family savings. Anyways, watching this video made me realize how easy it was for him to be taken advantage of at the time, so maybe the fact that I paid him fairly despite that factored into us becoming close friends.

I love the fact not only there's no fees but it also donates to the reforestation! I'm definitely switching over to this for my commissions.

I love it how they don’t take fees out of your commission and they treat both the client and the artist fairly instead of choosing a side which sometimes results in the clients

i've had problems with pricing my art for a long time (well.. i've only been taking commissions for three or so years, but i've thought about it for a long time!) and one main thing that always tripped me up was the "time" aspect of pricing it. Everyone always says "Price your work based on how long it takes!" or "The longer your work takes, the more you should charge!" but... I can get a colored + cel shaded fullbody done in less than two hours! Maybe one if I don't get distracted (ADHD is a bitch, lmao). It doesn't even take much effort for me either- just turn on some music, turn off my brain, and get to work.
For anyone struggling with this too, i'd say look at it a different way: Because you draw so fast, price MORE. if your art is good and it gets done quickly, that's a very good thing for most people, so they'd be willing to pay extra!
this video was very good and helped me with a lot of things i thought about commissions etc. :'-0

As the client I love when the artist gives frequent updates. A lot of artists make to much progress in one jump and it makes it difficult to ask them to undo their hard work just because they didn’t check if something was right earlier.

Considering that the author himself does not currently use this platform, this means that this is only advertising and not a truly useful service.
However, the advice on commissions is good. Thank you.

I just want to say thank you for showcasing Artistree because for the longest time i wanted to do commissions but had some up's & downs in life. i wouldn't draw because i had a Perfectionist Mindset which prevented me to do what i loved in the 1st place. Recently, I've finally learned to Let it Go & make mistakes. After watching your video I'm Pumped to start doing Commissions but only after i Re-Visit the basics of art for a little bit & what i know.

This video was very helpful! I’ve heard of commissions but was always told of the hefty fees they come with. I’m not at the skill level i want to be at to start commissions (nor do I have the time right now because of school) or the fact that only my family and a few friends know of me, but this gave me a huge boost of motivation to get better! I’m also thinking of trying your free brushes out more often, I realized I got them a while back but I hadn’t been checking my emails until like a weak ago😂

Thanks for the in depth showcase of Artistree! I've been using a more "old-fashioned" model of handling my commissions; Email for communication, Google Forms to accept commissions, and Sheets to keep track of them and it sometimes gets a bit overwhelming having to juggle updating all of them 😅 Knowing there's a website that handles all including payment is really helpful!

I setup my account as I followed along. Im glad to see they included a way to upload the finished product, because I was never sure how to send clients the finished work without loss of quality. I’m so excited, I’ve never done comms before and the simplicity of this site makes me wanna try 😄🤞

Thank you so much for this video. I came back to it after watching it once because I am seriously considering doing commissions so I can learn the business side of art. The pros and cons you offered for other payment options was helpful as well, as I almost did get scammed doing it through PayPal (due to someone phishing for information).

This is perfect timing! I’ve been wanting to open commissions lately, but I hadn’t found a platform I was comfortable with. Thank you so much Nadia! This website sounds like it’s just what I need

Thank you for this guide! I'm still scared to do commissions as I'm afraid I won't meet customers expectations but when I'll feel more confident about myself I'll definitely use this site 🤩

This is sososososo incredibly helpful!! I never knew of Artistree and this honestly helped me build a good idea of what my presence/commission accounts will look like with price ideas and everything!! I used to be so confused and scared of starting but I'm so excited now!! Thank you so much!!

I also feel so validated in pricing my stuff high bc it takes me so long to make it and I feel like I should get what I deserve (*cough* *glaring at mom who said my semi-realistic bust should be priced at 5-8 dollars*)

Although I don't think I'll be able to do commissions anytime soon (as I am VERY busy haha) this video is extremely helpful! Thank you!

Also, congrats on
