I know this tarp shelter as the ‘plough point’ shelter. First used it about 12 years ago in Australia but did not know the name for it until about 10 years ago and the term ‘plough point’ was an Australian one but I have heard the same name used for this type of tarp shelter here in the UK.

I have learned to use this as a fast deploy shelter only as I have a DD Superlite Tarp in the side pocket of my pack, in bad weather we literally take out the end of the tarp from the pocket and this end is the bit you tie like you just did to the upper top section, because the rest of the tarp is in your side pocket first it means it does not blow around whilst you do this. You then move away from the tree with your pack causing the rest of the tarp to slowly deploy and pin in the rest and until you have the full plough point. I have to admit I only use this for emergency shelter as it packs back down quickly into the side pocket again in reverse order. On the ground with a deliberate tarp set up I have other preferences like the Ganya, or Tarp tent for over nights, the simple lean to or A-Frame for daily stop overs and the diamond for hammock camping. But like anything, always keen to try new things

yes, he's great, but you're still on the ground, with the ants, rocks, snow, mud, brush, roots, etc, I just use a hammock. I can use a staked down and guyed out tripod to hold the foot end of my hammock if need be. I can also rig it as a slingchair, if i only have one tree and set it up with me in a reclining position.

I'll tell you what is problem! :it's not problem how to build shelter, but problem is where to get right canvas for a shelter.Maybe it's not problem in America, but in other part of the world it is quite expensive to buy quality canvas shelter or canvas tarp...Now solve the problem!!!
