Double Brooding BIG Nucleus Of Bees!! Nuc Managment

In this video I show you how to deal with big colonies of bees while their in a nuc box. In this case they are Buckfast Bees.

Rearing bees and increasing numbers in nucleus boxes is an excellent way of doing it. Its a crucial part of beekeeping.
The honey bees build up fast in the box and your left with two options. Either take a split from the box or double brood them up.

Here I decided to double brood the bees up, but I will be making more splits from them to make more hives in the weeks to come.

Hi Gruff mate, really nice box of bees you have there yes you’ve got to love buckfast bees so easy to work with and great honey producers I wish my few nucs I’ve got where looking as good as yours mate, how are you now with your queens I’m still having problems only just this morning i found one of my colonies the new queen who was laying great guns has gone drone layer on me and another hive has a load of emergency cells this is the hive I found 2 dead small queens on their landing board, how many emergency cells would you leave or would you just let them work it out for themselves all together I counted 6 cells near the top on 2 brood frames. Where did you get the orange bee suit, Griff? I have a five-year old suit but the wrist openings don't have a velcro strap and it's my number one place for getting stung. Am also going to have a look at your buckfast, they look really well behaved.

I define a BIG nucleus as a Langstroth jumbo on 6 frames. About 10% bigger than a National standard brood box.
