API vs Red Sea vs Salifert Test kits

Here my last video on comparing the three test kits. By my test it looks like they are all pretty close to each other.

James, thanks for this useful comparison. I'm all for simplicity, and find the Salifert rather cumbersome, although titration is the norm. API is very straight forward. Most Pro reefers seem to either have a Hanna checker or a probe, but those are not without issues either. Thanks again, I appreciated the effort you shared.

I went and checked my test tubes and I do not agree. Mine were fine. I used multiple Syringes and it seems ok to me. If you eliminate the extra water in the nozzle as it should be the test tubes are ok.

Yea that's a good point because you know to its good to have accurate test kit with all the time and money we have invested in this hobby

Nice video James I was going to by the Red Sea and swap out my Ali but if they about the same in accuracy the. No point of spend more money for it thx for the video

Okay so unless I am missing something you didn't actually do a Nitrate, Ammonia or Nitrite test with Red Sea and it seems to be unclear whether the salifert test for Nitrate (or was it Nitrites). You seem to be more concerned about PH, Magnesium, etc. and less focused on the 3 biggies (Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate). Generally people's complaints about API are targeted squarely on the inaccuracy of the Nitrate test. Red Sea measures 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 for Nitrates and API measures 0, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160. Further add in that API made 10-20 virtually the same color and 40-80 virtually the same color. In a Reef Tank that kind of variance is huge. Try comparing Red Sea, Salifert and API just for Nitrates and I think you will be shocked at the difference.
