It’s so lovely to see you make this using mostly hand tools instead of mortice cutters and cnc machines ect... takes $50k worth of machinery just to knock out something simple!
You are a true craftsman in every sense of the word and it’s a pleasure to watch you work.

I love how you take something as utilitarian as a mallet and show that craftsmanship, attention to detail and quality can produce a piece of art.

Kai E. has it right in so many ways. The Samurai has inspired me to really go for it, make stuff, for the joy of it. but as Kai E. has said you cant eat the joy, you cant take sellter under joy.

Samurai you got it right! you have shown me its possable to make a living at a craft. keep going and thank you for what you have done for me.

I have yet to see this dude with any lumber that isn’t perfect. Props. Lot of prep work goes in to every piece he rips or notches.

To all of you who say that it's bad that he goes for money instead of his passion: *you can't live off of passion.* You can't trade it for food, you can't trade it for rent, you can't even pay a hooker with it. So apparently *you* didn't notice, that *HE IS INDEED CHASING HIS PASSION: MAKING WOODWORKING A LIVING!* Isn't that the dream? But unless some of you write him a check every month you should stop whining cause he can't live off of your tears either.

Dude! Keep doing whatever you need to do. This video was awesome. I'm a seasoned woodworker and still enkoyed watching you make something so simple and yet so elegantly done. Ignore the haters. Having said that, your audio levels are all over the place. I'm watching on a tablet, in bed, and raising and lowering volume trying to hear you speak and not wake up the Fun Management Officer next to me with the music. ;)

The most basic component of wood-working is creating. Why not create and use some of your own tools! Yes, you can easily go buy a wooden mallet, but why not make one and then love what you make! Beautiful!

Thanks for this. It's my fathers birthday and he loves tools, but has almost everything. He doesn't have a wood mallet. And i have some nice wood to build one.
NZ Manuka handle and Australia jarra hardwood for the head.

wow reading the comments and sad to hear some don't understand. mates you will piss out 20 bucks a month on beer and starbucks. this is an inexpensive education you can build on and make money down the road. yes he needs to make a living we all knew that going in. im an avid woodworker and I have made a wonderful living on woodworking before joining. I joined to learn the different details and techniques. what im saying is your never too old or young to learn no matter how free or not it is. content like this is priceless. the cost of education and designs and drawings is worth it alone. this is samurai and I approve this message. lol all kidding aside its worth it.

Good to see you back in action, Samurai! I enjoyed the video, which came at a great time for me as I just failed miserably at making my first mallet lol. Looking forward to your next video. Hope you and the family are doing well.
